Not sure I agree with that. The best drivers will always try to win at any cost. The only way I can see your statement being vaguely true is that he tried to pull something off and failed to do so. The likes of Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso and Schumi have all been guilty of pushing the limits of what is and isn't acceptable for a racing driver to do when going wheel to wheel.

Rosberg has yet to beat Hamilton on the track when they are racing wheel to wheel this season? Hamilton is convinced Rosberg cheated at Monaco and his team bosses tore him off a strip after Spa. All the other drivers you mention were / are great drivers, Rosberg is not even close to being as good as any of them...imo. Rosberg needs Hamilton's mechanical problems and his cheating antics to stay in front.

I agree, I don't think Rosberg is as good as any of them. But if/ when any one of the the drivers I mentioned had done what Rosberg did pundits and fans would probably be saying that their desire to win is what drove them to do it and that is why they are all great champions. Schumi did much worse when he was racing and most fans thought his desire to win at "any cost" mentality is what made him a true great. So yeah, double standards. I wonder what the reactions would have been if Lewis had done it to Nico.

I thought Schumacher was a cheat too, so at least I'm being consistent here

Lewis is a racer, often a naive one although he did try and cheat in Australia, with some prompting from the team, a few years ago I seem to remember, but I don't see him doing what Rosberg has done this season. Sulky, naive, annoying to many, yes but he wears his heart on his sleeve and does not need to cheat. He is good enough to win on the track these days

Are you a German? Loved seeing Rosberg crack. Not sure I like the booing, even though Rosberg is clearly a cheat. Monaco and Spa were the sign of a desperate driver who knows he is not as good as his team mate. Barring mechanical problems Lewis will reel Rosberg in.

Fix

Rosberg playing the team game, apologises for the Spa incident, ‘gives’ the win today. Rosberg has a long term contract in his pocket, Hamilton does not. It will be interesting to see how it plays out when Mercedes win the constructors championship before the drivers has been decided. Think Mercedes may then back Rosberg.
