What do you mean? Like Peter Ward? Stan Bowles? George Best? Lionel Messi? Johan Cruyff......

They could dribble though. They didn't run straight at people and act surprised when they were easily knocked over

I wasn't particularly impressed anyway, but the way he celebrated after Lua Lua's goal against Derby annoyed me immensely. No thanks.

George Best in particular had almost superhuman balance. There is that wonderful clip of Chopper Harris trying to cut him in two (about 3.30 on the video below), he just rides the challenge and goes onto score. It was a gift Best had that is not always talked about. While he had all the dribbling, control, speed etc. his ability to stay on his feet was incredible, this compilation alone has enough examples of being strong on the ball for the likes of Lingard to have a look at a realise he needs to be stronger.

Messi, similarly, combines amazing balance with great STRENGTH. He rides tackles and ignores shoulder barges, that would knock a much bigger man out of his stride.

Agree with others - Lingard would benefit from a stronger upper body (this isn't necessarily the same thing as 'bulking up' though). Sometimes it just means learning to use your existing strength and weight better.

You heard anything to suggest we may get him back pal?

So there's clearly no need for improvement then. Everyone who's ever played for the England U21s has gone on to have an incredible successful career

Hinsh & Harding have done alright...

Not so sure it's about strength so much as centre of gravity. Messi's is so low hence his amazing balance, so whilst it looks like he has amazing strength, it's more that the shoulder barges etc just aren't affecting him as they are so far from his balance axis.

Obviously Jesse can't change his centre of gravity so he probably should get on the weights to get round the issue.

Since when has representing England at u-21 level been the yard stick by which we judge a players ability? Goodness sake

The point I'm making is that you don't need to "bulk up" to improve ability, that kind of thinking had it's vogue in the 70s, goodness sake. Extra bulk on most players would simply reduce their mobility.
