FWIW, I was sad that Liam didn't go in the summer. Not sad for us but sad for him as I felt he should be playing in the PL for a mid table, Fulham (at the time, I hasten to add before their recent collpse) type team as a next step. It is sad that he will now may well only get 4 months in the PL with a struggling side. Not sure how saleable that will make him if they do go down.

Uve always stuck up for Poyet since he went to some degree - this is really testing that. There really is no respect or loyalty in football - don't care what anyone says, raiding and disrupting former clubs players is bang out if order!

Doesn't everyone want Oscar to sign Barca B players? Were you bothered when Adams signed Watson, Oatway, Brooker, Culip etc.?

Elliott Bennett handed in a transfer request in January and we didn't sell until the Summer.

If Sunderland don't put up enough cash, don't bet against a repeat of that.

Although Liam asked to leave in the summer but is still here in January.

Surely the club telling Liam that he won't be sold is simply part of the negotiations to up the fee. I'd be amazed if he wasn't sold, even if it isn't for as much as the club wants. I thought the policy here was never to stand in anyone's way if they had an opportunity to further their career - that's what we were told with Bennett and Noone at least.

He was always going to go...all our player of the season tend to go.

Although I am very annoyed at this as I would have hoped we were not a selling club anymore, I would be more worried if ulloa was touted around. I have never really been a fan of Buckley as I thought he was a sick note luxury player and my Watford mate did warn me about him and it appears he was right.

You can't argue with the fact that we are in abetter position points wise from last year largely without bridcutt, ulloa and Buckley, but I think ulloa is the lynchpin to hold the line and push on towards the play off positions.

Of course if we are looking to getting as much money in the bank to alleviate any FFP sanctions, EL p suggesting the loss will be 8 million rather than the 5mill we are allowed, then we may be forced into selling him as we are desperately trying to be seen as the goody two shoes in all of this whereas other teams are building squads so if they are hit with an embargo, they have the players in already.

Thought we were allowed £8m loss this season... Then £5m then £3m

Although FFP is a mystery to me

This entirely. Telling him to f*ck off or calling him a Judas is just ridiculous.

To be fair it's generally only thick people that say that. Thick people who've never had, and never will get the opportunity to further their careers and give themselves and their families a better life.

A Judas is not somebody who does this, it's somebody who screws a club over and then signs for their rivals. Sol Campbell is the classic example. Murray was the closest we've come, and looking back on it now I don't think he was as bad as we all thought at the time, the club didn't exactly pull out all the stops to make him feel wanted and keep him.

Dan Harding was the closest we've come, actually.

I'd be surprised if this deal isn't done by Saturday at the latest, most probably today or tomorrow. The player wants to go. Do the deal and move on. The last thing Oscar needs is a selection problem against Birmingham and the whole 'will he play, won't he' issue over shadowing the whole game and weeks to come.
For what it's worth I've met Liam a few times and he is a fantastic lad very humble and genuinely loved playing here. Impossible to be grudge him this move really. Good luck

He did like it here and its probably never been the same for him since Gus was booted out. Losing players like him was always going to be a consequence of the change of manager, Bridge gone, Bridcutt on his way, Buckley and Barnes seem next out the door but thankfully we don't have anymore 'B' players.

The next loss announced will be larger than 8 million, but don't forget that is Amex year 2, and so free of FFP penalty.

The following loss - this season, amex year 3 - is on track to beat the FFP limit ( 8 million ) I believe.

The FFP limit for the year after that is a 5 million loss, but no point in worrying yet about that as, who knows, we may be in the PL, and then the rules are different.
