Apparently teaching is his fall back, should things fail to work out. Can understand him wanting to trade in Crawley for Portsmouth.

Portsmouth should be doing much better than they are with the squad they have while Crawley will find it difficult to go any higher than they are now.

Well l think you have answered your own question! Portsmouth, although currently struggling in League Two, are a much bigger club than Crawley, and with much greater potential, a few seasons down the line it could be Crawley who are struggling while Pompey are on the up.

There is no way they can be sacking him for poor performance, as if they were unhappy with him they would surely have held on to see if Portsmouth wanted to pay compensation for him. Similarly, if they are sacking him because he's been talking to Portsmouth or putting himself in the frame while still contracted to them (which is probably more likely), they still should have waited in order to get the compensation.

Club statement

Crawley Town Football Club can confirm that it has terminated the contract of First Team manager Richie Barker with immediate effect.



The club will make an announcement as soon as possible on who will look after team affairs in the interim period and we ask our supporters to have patience while the process of finding a new manager is undertaken.



The club will not be making any further comment at this stage.​
