If the end of the special isn't Hurt regenerating as Eccleston I'll be disappointed. Unless of course Smith regenerates into Capaldi ahead of the expected schedule

Really hope this happens but I expect old misery guts Eccleston didn't want to do it.

Allegedly, Eccleston did film some scenes before dropping out which may still be included.

We shall see, but I'd bet today wasn't the last surprise/shock in all of this.

OMG

Has anyone seen the 'Night of the Doctor' minisode!!!

Paul McGann as the Doctor again!! :)
Just watched it, pretty special - would much rather have had McGann at the start of 'new' Doctor Who than that professional misery Eccleston.

Chris Chibnall, who has written a bunch of episodes for both Doctor Who and Torchwood, has just tweeted about it saying he has it on very good authority that people should consider following @dayoftheFishDr

Might be nothing of note - could be general tomfoolery and a red herring for all I know - but the only tweet from that account is "9 days. They are coming... #FishDr"

So, is Hurt the new 9th Doctor, Eccleston the 10th and so on?

I don't believe so, on a technicality. John Hurt isn't "the doctor". Hurt would be the 9th regeneration, eccleston would be the tenth etc, but with hurt not doing whatever he did "in the name of the doctor" he doesn't count as one of the doctors. Or at least, that is how it was standing back when John Hurt first appeared and people were speculating on whether he fit between mcgann and eccleston.

I'm wondering if during the 50th special Hurt's Doctor is actually the Ninth but locks himself in the Time War via The Moment so he's out of the Doctor's overall time-line and thus stricken off the list returning Eccleston to Ninth, Tennant to Tenth etc.

I've been re-watching some of the recent few years doctor who on Watch. There was the one where Eccleston meets a dalek. He says he didn't have a choice about surviving the time war. It could be a long forgotten throwaway line written before they had any idea there would be a story going into detail on the time war and may just be ignored. Or it could be something they are going to work into the story...

Further to this pondering on previous Doctors, I have been re-watching 'Trial of a Time Lord' on Virgin On Demand and I think Colin Baker got the bad end of some terrible effects and possibly the worst version of the theme music ever but is quite a bit better than I remember him. Oh and Peri

You don't mean...he's not...Adric is back?!

I was at school in Shoreham with the guy who played Adric and I can't even remember his name. He was nothing at school either and then he soared to the heights of the Doctors' assistant. You can never tell, can you.
