I draw the line at sending greetings card for Firework Night!!!!
If you're party to certain religions (which I'm not) then there are obvious reasons to celebrate Christmas. If you are not, it's a good excuse to get together with your extended family, get merry, have office parties, watch some classic films, be generous! Valentines day is good if you're with someone you love, not so good if you're not! New Years day, out with the old and in with the new. Optimism which is invarialbly unfounded but again, a good reason to get merry and enjoy the company of your friends. Unfortunately, a bi-product of their popularity is of course the regrettable commercialisation of them but, from my perspective, that is a small price to pay.
Of course, all the above doesn't mean you can't enjoy other times of the year but the collective nature of those events can, to some, make them more enjoyable. Compare it to Brighton scoring a goal. Do you enjoy it more because almost everyone is celebrating or do you think it would be equally enjoyable if only you and couple of mates with you were the only ones jumping up and down?
Good answer
