I would rather sit in silence than have an effing Drummer.

Yep I dislike Palace as much as anybody on here but I have to say their Ultra singers put our North Standers to shame when it comes to making noise, even when they were losing they still made a racket. I think the club needs to sort something out to make sure our vocal element are closer together in the North, how they do it I don't know but I'm sure it would make a big difference, it would be need to be done during the close season obviously. Maybe those that are interested could inform the club they want to be part of that and the club sort it from there.
Once that core element is sorted then it would help the rest of the ground to join in, unless of course 'Safe Standing comes in' which would solve the problem.

You may have noticed that the stand behind the goal, where the noise is generated, is the biggest at the ground, when a group of fans get going the noise will quite easily get pushed along as more people join in. You may have also noticed that the NS at the Amex is the smallest stand in the ground and when noise is generated it generally stops when it moves out to another stand. Is it really the NS's responsibility on its own to generate the noise for the whole stadium?

The ones who started the NS(W) atmosphere in the first two seasons all moved to underneath the policebox when the new seats were put in, this was a big mistake IMO as the noise gets lost now and doesn't make it to the rest of the stadium to carry it on.

These are the fans you're referring to as making noise at the Palace game, it's very relevant. What isn't relevant is the noise at the old Goldstone which was seldom if ever as noisy as the Amex, it really wasn't. For a start the North Stand was hardly ever more than half full. We very rarely had sustained periods of 'walls of noise' and never when we were losing 4-1. The idea that the Goldstone was a cauldron of noise is a myth.

Its almost impossible on here to make any constructive criticism about anything. Give me the atmosphere at The Goldstone during a derby match than one at The Amex any day. We were a lot more vocal then than now and that is a fact. Also where did the sustained 'walls of noise' come from? I don't know how old you are but I remember crowds of 28-35000 making a great atmosphere and being very vocal, but sustained 'walls of noise' obviously not. Almost after every match at The Amex there is a thread about the lack of atmosphere so if someone can come up with an idea to try and help improve it, the better

Hey, I know! What about our very own "theme song" like palace...I think YMCA is really catchy. also things have gone downhill since Gullys girls went the way of Barber (out, obviously) but we at Brighton should do something a bit different on that score...what about a group of heavily muscled and oiled Moustachioed male nurses dancing around a massive cock statue? After every goal the North could call out "ooh, get her!" in unison and our mascot could be an enormous effigy of Freddie Mercury! While the speakers boom out our song when we score a goal.

It would be epic. manly and hard. I'd be all over that shit.

Apologies for starting the thread it seems it has been taken out of context so I'll end it there.

I watched the game last night and was thinking do any of the mongy lot in the corner actually bother watching the game? It seemed like every time they panned over to them they were waving flags and jumping up and down and then when they did a close up they were looking round at each other for approval.

All very odd. If that is what being an ultra is all about then you can keep it, I'd rather just watch the game!

Always Ultras :lolol: Once Fulham equalised the vocal support just disappeared for the rest of the game.

Yes ok I understand that about the St Pauli bit but at least it gets the atmosphere going, maybe our North Standers could think of something else equally as good. I get so frustrated when we have got 28,000 in the ground and hardly any noise is generated. Spurs crowd is only 7,000 more than ours and yet the noise generated from them is phenomenal.
Their song sounds like a 'Bodyform' advert. I could fart an equally good noise as that.

I think we should introduce synchronised tutting in the East Stand, that will show them.

I was in the 1901 for the Forest game, and was actually pretty impressed by the noise from the SW Corner and the North Stand. The 1901'ers shocked me, but when I saw the England v Poland game, and the empty corporate seats on the half way line after 52 minutes as they are still eating, realised they were probably one and the same.

Today there are hard core fans who want to make a racket, and some people who just want a bit of entertainment, there is room for both sets, no point slagging others off just because they don't live and breath the Albion 24/7. I suspect they are a lot happier with their life as a result than those of us that get the Albion/Life balance a bit skewed.

They put our whinging home fans to shame. Anyone who thinks they don't are deluded. The noise they make throughout a match is superb. Who gives a toss if they aren't watching the match(supposedly) Our wanna be ultras are an embarrassment when sized up to those nasty people along the A23.

Give me that bouncing atmosphere all day long instead of 30 people singing that shitty go left song which the vast majority hate.

Absolute bollox - obviously you weren't at the St Patrick day massacre game when they disappeared as soon as they were losing like they did last evening vs Fulham. You're just another sucker that believes the Palace myth that the "Holmesdale Fanatics" are the "leagues best supporters".

Not a Nigel under the age of 40 inside Selhurst has witnessed lower league football therefore their "support" has a soft under belly - brought up never having experience true hard times. That is why whenever they face , what they suppose is, a humiliation they go into meltdown and turn on each other. I would hate having a section of "supporters" that constantly sing and bounce up and down and never watch the game - they know nothing of the meaning of true support and are seen by others teams as an embarrassment - they are not universally liked by other Palace either.

Do you think Palace would take 2k to Yeovil on a wet Saturday when they are playing shite and in the lower reaches of the Championship ? - like feck they would ! If you are so impressed with them I suggest you get a ticket for their next match - there are plenty left.

Certainly the vocals in the NS aren't as good this year. Part of the problem was when Mr & Mrs NSK and their associates moved under the police box. Being fairly central we now often get two different songs started at the same time! That never helps.

However, the OP asked for suggestions on how the noise could be improved, so here's an idea. Instead of spreading the singers out thinly in the back half dozen rows, make the blocks immediately behind the goal "safe standing". Would the singers then move to the safe standing area together? I'm sure many would. This would also make the stewards life much easier in enforcing sitting outside of that area.

The problem? IIRC that nice Mr Barber dismissed the notion of having a "safe standing" area without actually thinking about how it might improve the atmosphere and benefit the team.

Also, let us not forget that "all-seaters" came out of the Taylor Report which, as we now all know, was based on the lies and corruption of the OB. There cannot be any credibility in Taylor's recommendations when all he had to go on was lies, untruths and falsehoods.

We can only hope that the club demonstrates how forward-thinking it is by joining the safe-standing campaign.

Thanks for that rippleman, excellent idea. It's what we all want a great atmosphere so lets hope the nice Mr Barber wakes up to the idea about safe standing. It's a fantastic stadium and deserves a fantastic atmosphere.

I haven't got any issues with the HF, but last night some of the younger ones let themselves down.
At the full time whistle, they made their way along the front of the Holmesdale to have a go at Ollie and certain players. They did it to get on tv, and unfortunately they got the headlines, rather then the rest of us who clapped the team off.
They take a lot of stick from " proper " fans around the country, but they are young kids creating an atmosphere, and I feel that some of them take themselves a bit too seriously.
Tbh, I sit in the next block along from them, and there are lots of us older fans who give um a run for their money !

All together now,
Who's up Peter Ward ? who's up Peter Ward ? Alan Alan Mullery, Alan Alan Mullery !!
