football died with the all seater stadiums, the launch of the premier league, and the bosman ruling.

still a "great game" but now surrounded by marketeers and greedy vipers.....at the expense of a consumer who "loves his club (corporation)."

Brighton / Hove actually
sad to say i'm afraid , home much longer before the money go round crashes , fair to say that some of the players appalling antics on the pitch are becoming a piss take to the punter , players running around with things written on their vests after scoring , obscene wages , TV coverage dictating everything , seems to me football fans have been brainwashed.............. happy to accept that ???

FFP is here to make it sustainable and football has improved since passing back to the goal keeper was made illegal. The game has evolved since the 200 aside inflated pigs bladder kicking sport with no offside, up to the present day modern stadiums and goal line technology.

I wouldn't worry yourself about it we will be fine, and you should really be more concerned about keeping your fairy wings in good working order.

I understand what you are getting at PPF
football is now big business and you are customers (or mushrooms(kept in the dark and fed shit)) given clackers
having said all that I just wish I could get to matches (but would probably be thrown out for shouting to loud)
it all went pear shaped when someone realised they might make some money out of the game

There are plenty of things wrong with modern football. I'm just not convinced these issues are the same issues as the ones that bother the OP.

Apart from the obscene wages paid - I think the saddest change in football is the cheating that is going on and condoned by all. Taking one for the team! Today's penalty against Everton was a complete joke. How can that be a foul when the wrestling going in the penalty area on for a corner or free kick is not penalised is beyond me. This is not the game I played or watched as a youngster. The values are non existent now. It seems that only golf has any honour among it's players .

Wages? Well if people didn't buy sky they couldn't pay them.

Antics? Well thats always been happening in one form or another.

TV coverage? See above about wages.

Brainwashed punters? Rubbish. Apathetic punters? Possibly. Accepting punters? Yes.

What's the solution? Do nothing. Or do something so what do you do. Stop going, stop buying sky (I'll never have sky) stop watching in a pub?

People who look back and complain are as guilty as everyone else. If you don't like it now you should have done something in 1993.

Sorry, but watching it on sky in the pub is not really different from paying for it at home. You have no right to adopt the moral high ground for that.
Agreed that as far as the money side is concerned, the time to say no has passed, how could anyone forecast the situation we have now?

I'd be happy to see a 50% revaluation of all things football:
50% player wage cut
50% ticket prices
50% programme cost

Pies and pints - why not?
Would improve spectator numbers and still give the players enough to live on.

I draw similar links to motorcycles - when I first started riding in the mid 70's motorbikes were a poor man's transport, now they are a rich man's toy.

Football is gradually losing is working class roots and if prices continue to rise, will eventually become a rich man's pleasure.

Although I think the OP is a bit of a odd one, got to agree with him.

Where's the fun in that tonight? Shit tactics, our own players rolling around like primary school girls, Forests bench behaving like spoilt kids (despite being in their 60's), getting charged a fortune for it, absolutely desperate service from the caterers, being outside the ground and seeing the 1000's of converted 'Brighton' fans not really giving a **** that we've just been turned over without even trying?

Footballs on its arse, I hope all the happy clappys enjoy it.

Would you kindly point out where in my post I said I watch sky in a pub? Just a little bolding or underlineng will do.

How do you forecast? Well that's a different lesson but normally its based on what has passed, what is happening, the intent of the subject, The vulnerability or role of the asset. Ergo sky wanted to sell contracts to make money and the only thing they could sell to a unique market was football. To make money by spending money.

this has been going on for at least 18 years (as a reference point, 1995 was the year Fowler showed off a shirt to support dockers). seems everyones accepted it.

Football will eat itself
genuine hard working football fans paying mortgages bills etc etc can hardly afford to go to football because a player like Gareth Bale can earn £200,000 a week we're all ****ed

Is that your longest ever post DR?

I agree with most of what you say, but football won't die because the fans are spoon fed that we have the greatest game in the world by vested interests. It's like Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, but with the PL replacing soma for the epsilons.

must admit,it does come to something when I find Real v. Barca nigh on unwatchable, due to all the rolling around

Agree with that. Turned the last game off sick of the diving, rolling otherwise known as cheating. As you say totally unwatchable.
