Oscar planning more loans

I personally believe this could be a wise policy. It is far easier to start making changes now over the course of a couple of seasons, starting to get more loans and continuing our free signings etc, than it is to make drastic changes over night. THis ensures that we can explore all options for reducing our expenditure without having to compromise the quality of our squad and means we will be in the best position when the ffp rules finally come into full action. Unless they get promoted teams like Leicester, QPR, Forrest will be absolutely destroyed and need a complete rebuild in a couple of seasons however they seem to be continuing their gambling philosophy that has not done them much good in previous seasons.

Im happy with what we have and a season of consolidation could fair us well. The only major difference however in the spending this season is that we haven't got signings with flashy credentials that awe fans on first sighting such as Vicente, David Lopez, Bruno etc however this doesn't mean Ward, Agustien or Andrews are worse signings just because they have played in the Premiership for solid teams and have relevant experience in this league. In this league we have produced some majestic quality and yet only walked away with one point or sadly sometimes defeat because the other team can play the scrappy game and grab a goal when it is needed. I am hoping that these new signings will allow us to play the less attractive side of the game that you need to be successful in this league when playing away at Barnsley, Blackburn etc and allow you to grind out a result.

Im optimistic, perhaps some would believe too much, but we have only seen 3 games of Oscar and what i have seen is spots of bad luck, the process of shaping a team to his tactics, and promise in terms of our attack. A concluding point when was the last time we were not searching for or worrying about getting a 20 goal striker? Surely that is something to celebrate.

Another uninspiring article. Really do not want to see half a team of loanees. As said many times before on this site you can start to see why Poyet was getting frustrated now when planning for this season.

This strategy, to me, seems flawed. I'm not really sure which direction the club is going in at present and cannot see what the overall aim is.

Loaned Bridge & Upson, Hammond last season worked really well
To be honest I couldn't care less if we loaned more the goal is the same & when we go one better than last year the budgets will be very different thereafter . Although the signings so far have not been marque signings were all after they have definitely added strength to the team in comparison to last season. Lets get CMS back and another couple of good quality loans in and we are up there again. Some forget that our best signing will be banging in 25 goals for us as well

As long as they're long term loans, I don't see the problem. It's probably where the value is in the market. Generally players with Premier League experience that their clubs are desperate to, at least partially, get off the wage bill so a bit of a bargain, quite often. Certainly, not the type of player we'd otherwise be able to afford.

Loaning players is a lot less risky than the "hit or miss" approach with Poyet. We got lumbered with crap like Harley and Dobbie last year (and, quite honestly, CMS hasn't really worked out). Whereas, we've had some top top loans (and some crap ones, admitedly: Barn Door Billy was just about the lowest of the low) and the players that don't work out can be sent back.

I can't see the problem, as long as they are long-term loans. We don't want people flitting in and out of the club but we need a better, deeper squad and can't afford to finance that with permanent signings.

Look at the amount of utter dross that QPR, Leicester, Blackburn etc bought and can't get rid of. Then look at Reading's thrifty approach. I know who's likelier to be in business in 20 years time.

Some need to get real. We have a better squad than this time last year but suffering from injuries to key players. We are applying the new rules correctly and all this bodes well for the future. As far as some saying that our financial position is so bad need to reflect on past. We have a chairman who is one of the richest in the league and more importantly has the interests of the club foremost in his thinking. Season long loans are a win win for the club.

Rather bring in loans than buys since loans will be of far greater quality.

Feeling effects of money wasted on Harley, Hoskins and CMS, although the latter could come good under Oscar.

I like how all these moaners are wanting bloom to spend more. He has already spent £150M. Why don't you shell out half of your net worth?

I know it's not going to be a popular opinion, but I agree with you on this. It looks like we are building a team consisting of journeymen, raw kids or ageing players. I'm not expecting us to spend £££££'s on players but to sign someone would show a little ambition. I'm probably worrying without reason to but if we are playing poor football with average players fans are going to start to disappear. Every other team in the league seems to be abusing FFP other than us, we're going to sit tight and abide by it and watch everyone sail past us.

Agree with this, but us obeying FFP may show why we have bought Barber in the first place...

It's clear that other clubs are abusing it, but there are little loopholes in this situation, once several clubs get the embargoes, then they will drop down the pecking order.

More clubs in transfer embargoes means less clubs to compete with signings which could work brilliantly for us. We're here for the long term, I'd much rather be a financially stable club and realistically achieve Premier League status than to abuse the system, get in shitloads of debt and be embargoed and miss out on signings!

What a strange statement. You haven't got a clue and neither have the rest of us.

Some loans are great and some loans don't work but that is no reason not to use loans when we can.

So where does this leave Barber's statement that our playing budget is similar to last season's one; was that a porky?

What about Tony's comment that we are targeting top 6 again? Yes, that was possible with the money he threw at the squad with the uber-budget-moaner Gus, but is it, if he doesn't give Oscar the funds?

Strange comment to make in Mid August.

You do know that we still have to pay loan player's wages don't you? It all comes out of the budget and I don't recall the club saying we will sign no else this season. Remember the end of August last year?

I'm happy with loan players, so long as they can play. Makes sense.

It does seem as if the level of the loan market we're inspecting has certainly gone down. Gems such as Bridge can't be found and polished and used again of course, but at present we're sniffing around rather urgently with teams looking to lower their wagebill. That's sensible in ways to keep ourselves financially stable and worry less over the impending FFP regulations that could whip the most sinful harshly, but at the same time it does look like we're in the market just to make ends meet and get by rather than to burst for promotion. I'm not averse to us settling and playing it safe, but the signings shouldn't completely counter club statements of believing in top 6 finishes or of continuing with a stylishness we've become used to. It lessens our belief in future positive statements and i don't think that's for the best considering faith and trust are two very important elements of support for the club and manager.
There's still time, i know, to make a marquee signing or two, and players such as Ward, who i am pleased to have on board, is a sort of emergency signing considering our leftbacklessness, but i think with a new manager comes a new flavour of things. And at present, we don't seem to have that. Not in the way of a this is how we'll do things thanks to Oscar turning up. I hope everything will be in order and a collective strategy is found ever so soon so that we can feel that a mission is re-begun and that really we have the one driver rather than a number all spinning the wheel differently.

My old fashioned heart doesn't really like loans for all the usual reasons, but my head understands the need for them under the present circumstances.
So be it.Let us get on with it as we can't turn the clocks back to my favourite time of supporting the Albion and that is that!
Have to say though,I hope we don't lose our identity along the way.

Plus we have the January window to potentially spend in as well.

The are so thick that they think all these season ticket holders will keep turning up to watch has been loanees.

If we finish midtable or worse then watch the season ticket holders drop for next seaso. What does Bloom expect? 23,000 season ticket holders to attend to look at a white elephant.

I'm quite happy seeing a few loan players coming in to supplement the squad while Oscar also bloods some of the younger players like Ince as well, At the end of the day signing a player on a season long loan is no different to signing the likes of Upson and Lopez on one year contracts except they're a bit cheaper.

I thought I'd seen the last of these loanees when we moved to the Amex and the withdean days were well and truly over but we seem to be in the same situation apart from a nice new shiney stadium.

This is my concern also, perhaps we are being hasty but right now this is how it looks to be shaping up. I appreciate loans are a good way to strengthen a squad or add cover, especially when you're borrowing from Premier League teams, but loaning from League One is slightly less than inspiring. Hopefully a positive result today will give us a different perspective but it's not going to happen if we are as unfit and as poorly organised as we were against Derby. As you have said, fans aren't going to continue throwing money at a crap product and that is exactly what we are getting at the moment, I'm not enjoying being so pessimistic but I'm genuinely worried about how things could end up. I appreciate we are sticking to the FFP with the prudence it deserves, but when nobody else is it's quite hard to take. We will not sell anywhere near as many tickets with an average team bobbling along mid-table in the Championship.
