But if you include wages in that budget, you have to include players released/to retained (bridge, Vicente, Hammond, Harley, dobbie, painter) adding to the pot some more money available, not just the incoming from Debbie's sale.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a promotion clause that bumped it up to 1.5m that has been included by sky.

If you look at the vertical banner on the right hand side on SSN the Dobbie figure is now showing as £850k (down from £1.5M but the figure for Gayle has risen from £6M to £8.5M)

I have this awful feeling we are going backwards squad wise, some will disagree but the signings so far are very uninspiring compared to last season.

Do you expect the squad to get almost exponentially "better" every season? If so, I think you need to reign in your expectations.

In 2011-12, we signed the likes of Buckley, Hoskins, CMS, Harley, LuaLua and Vicente. Do you have any idea how much that would have increased our playing budget? And we lost 9 million quid.

However, that didn't stop us, last season, adding Bruno, Kuszczak, Bridge, Crofts, Hammond, David, Dobbie, Orlandi, Upson and Ulloa. Again, do you have any idea how much our playing budget must have increased? And we will have made a similar 9 million loss.

And yet you expect comparable signings again THIS season? Really??????

Reading Neil Warnocks book the Gaffer he makes it clear as does Darragh Machontony ( chairman of posh in his book) there are fees and bonuses etc attached to Loans.....nothing it seems is free including free transfers.... ( both excellent reads btw)

Fair points, however PB has stated the budget for players has been enhanced and that was yesterday.....so we will have to wai an see what the next few weeks bring...

Why are you talking to me like I am an idot? It was who Mr Barber stated the playing budget was to be enhanced not me.

What I'd like to know though Is HOW we lost that. We are the most expensive team outside the prem. We get close to full house each and every game. Foods dead expensive along with drinks and programs but people still pay out. It's not like we spend spend spend. Would love to know where this 9mil went.

Paul Barber said the playing budget was "slightly increased". But, most of those players listed in my previous post are still here (Buckley, Hoskins, CMS, LuaLua, Bruno, Kuszczak, Crofts, David, Orlandi, Upson and Ulloa). Therefore, at best, it means we can replace those that have left, and maybe add one or two more. But I can guarantee that there won't be 10 additional signings this season of the calibre that we had last season (unless our stadium transforms overnight into a 50,000 capacity that sells out every fortnight).

Don't Mention The War
The playing budget has increased slightly according to PB, but I fully expect us not to buy a player for the sake of it. If we did, he would have to come here and quickly adapt to what we are trying to achieve and give us something extra, so if we are signing players in on loan like Andrews and free transfers such as Kemy and Chicksen, so be it.

The times are changing and we've all got to get used to it. If you noticed nearly every transfer what goes through nowadays, is an undisclosed fee aswell.

I never mentioned 10 more signings I clearly pointed out the caliber of the signings so far are not very inspiring ?

True. Swansea's star player in their game against United last season is far beneath us.
England's last goalscorer in a World Cup also isn't fit to grace the Amex turf.

I've been waiting for this post for a while, it will really split opinion. On the one hand you have PB saying costs being cut and us being asked to spend more will enable a competitive budget however as previously mentioned we have been relatively quite on the recruitment front thus far. The next few weeks will be telling as to how the majority of fans view the lip service we have been told so far.

In our first season at the Amex, revenue tripled (it increased by almost 15 million). Unfortunately, costs went up by even more (almost 17 million). 7.5 million of that was due to staff costs (football and administrative).

For every pound being spent by fans on tickets, food and shirts, the club was spending more than a pound on new staff, stock, travel subsidy and other expenses. Hence the stadium expansion being fast-tracked (to earn extra ticket revenue) and Barber being brought in to attempt to rationalise the expenses.

I think we all rubbed our hands in glee at the massive increase in revenue the Amex would bring, and didn't spare a thought for the additional costs it would entail.

Thanks for that. :)
