I've been to the US a fair few times and travelled all over the country.
I can say with hand on heart that the majority of Americans are the most hospitable and welcoming people I have ever come across.

Maybe some on this board have been watching too many movies and haven't actually been to the USA to judge for themselves.

I have only travelled to Florida so far but I was just composing a very similar thread, true some in America are beyond help and beyond belief but the vast majority are good people.

There are a lot of dead people I would put above many on the OP's poll list

I wanted to vote for my wife. But for some reason she's not on the list. So I voted for Peter Griffin, who's meant to be from near here.

Happy 4th everyone! 9.40am and it's already 30c. Lovely.

I've not been to mainland USA but to St Thomas and many of the Americans there were arrogant and stupid.

I've also, through my work, met many Americans and a majority have been excessively arrogant ( and again stupid ).

I'll give an example, I worked in Australia for a while in a hotel bar. An American came in and tried to pay with American dollars - when I politely pointed out he needed to pay in Australian dollars he hit the roof. No end of swearing and throwing insults at me and Australia. Apparently American dollars are accepted ANYWHERE.

I've had similar experiences working in hotels in this country when Americans have visited.

Now, they might be a small proportion of Americans but you have to wonder why the US sends it most stupid abroad !

I agree. Admittedly my main experiences have been in Washington (state), California and Nevada but my overall impression is that a more polite, friendly, warm and welcoming people you could not wish to meet. And yes I'm sure others experiences are different and yes of course there are some total twats over there - but then there are some on NSC as well.

I have been more than 40 times and have visited at least 40 different towns and cities. Agree that they are generally hospitable and welcoming but their lack of knowledge and interest in anything non-American is astonishing. Not to ignore the fact that so many of them believe they have a divine right to invade or overthrow any nation or leader that they don't like or who has something they want.
