Wonder what people's views are on this part of the interview:

Knight added: "We still have the unanswered issue of Charlie Oatway, whose suspension is still in the air. It has been over six weeks. To deal with a true servant of the club in that way is absolutely wrong.

* "It's his testimonial this year and he pledged to give 50 per cent of his takings to Albion In The Community. He has already given us several thousands of pounds, but the big one would have been the Liverpool friendly match.

* "That would probably have attracted a crowd of around 20,000 and AITC would have received something like £60,000 from that, which highlights Charlie’s very generous offer, and that match has now been cancelled.

* "They need to resolve the Charlie issue now and resolve it positively for him."

Should have kept his mouth shut about that issue as it is still ongoing

It needs to be resolved but it needs to be resolved positively for the club, not necessarily positive for Charlie. It depends what the suspension is for, surely? All this guff about his testimonial money is emotional blackmail.

Absolutely this.

Quite right. DK doesn't know what he may or may not have done. If/when he is fully exonerated then this is more relevant. Though I agree about the emotional blackmail stuff, if cleared I'd be more concerned how a long-standing servant had been treated than what the AITC missed out on.

That's why I asked the question. I'm not sure its emotional blackmail, it is a fact after all, but realistically with a new head coach and his team in place, is there actually a job for Charlie to go back into.

6 weeks though, that's a long time for this to be dragging on.

Fat boy Stephen Lee will have been suspended from snooker (and unable to earn proper money) for 11 months by the time his tribunal hearing on match-fixing charges takes place in September. Just saying, like. And he isn't being paid, or earning.

I wonder what Dean Wilkins makes of Dick Knight moaning about how the club is run and DK's opinions on managerial sackings. I bet DK isn't half so critical of the club in his autobiography when talking about the circumstances leading up to Wendy's sacking.

Fortunately for Dick Knight's reputation, Wilkins has had the grace never to criticise Brighton subsequently.

Two very good posts which I completely agree with. I think he should have kept his mouth shut in this case.

I think the role of a football chairman demands greater professionalism than any of us random internet forum posters .....

My comment wasn't aimed at Dick - it was at BensGrandad

It's sad that Dick feels slightly bitter about the way things have turned out at the Albion. However I can sympathise with his viewpoint as AITC was his baby and it is now being moved on from him. However it must be remembered that Dick saved this club and is in my mind the worthiest recipient of the title "Legend" that the club has ever had.

That said, I do feel with everything that has gone on in the past week Tony is finally getting the club run the way he wants it. All the various pieces are finally coming together after learning the lessons of the first two years at the Amex. We now have a grander vision of the future and the infrastructure to achieve it is finally being put in place, and I for one am very excited.

It would be a shame if this thread in particular turned into one filled with name calling and recrimination. Surely it is possible to acknowledge the achievements of the old regime whilst looking forward to our future as a potentially top-flight football club and the necessary changes required to make that happen.

I certainly don't fully condone the MO of the Albion management of late, but that sure is an excellent & measured post there Hotsta. :)

Dick Knight is an Albion legend and whenever i have met him he has been a true gent. What he did for the club is immense and i hope that one day we name a stand after him. Knight and Perry ran the club superbly under very difficult circumstances and won the battle for falmer. They were in effect running a small community club. The little club they were running has changed beyond recognition in the last 24 months and is being run accordingly - I guess TB having stumped up all the cash wants to have full control of all aspects - i cant begrudge him that. Dick Knight is and always will be a genuine Albion legend but things move on.

I've come back home.
Dick Knight is right about Charlie Oatway I think they have treated him like crap.

You dont actually know that tho do you unless you are charlie, his lawyer, the board, the head of HR or the clubs lawyers. He has been suspended in accordance with UK employment law. got a problem with that take it up with the judiciary not the board. All this treated like crap, crap, is just crap.

Depends what he has done or not done I suppose.

Charlie is a legend and always will be but from what I have heard, what he did was pretty bad and not related to poogate. He has given the club no choice and no possibility of coming back. Hope I am wrong mind!
