Uhm,

How many of you were at the match and saw what happened? :) There is a good chance this was a mistake on the ref's part.

It is a possible explanation though not a very likely one, were you at the game and did you see the incident?

I thought he was sent off for swearing at the ref after a two footed lunge at Orlandi in injury time.

Barnes was closest to the ref when it happened. If he tried to trip him he deserves a long ban, no excuse for that level of stupidity.

No I didn't, but I am not overreacting. It seems that people lose all sense of logical when it comes to Barnes. Surely we should sit back and wait for evidence it happened.

This sounds bizarre. The only person saying that he tried to trip the ref is the ref himself. Nobody else at all seems to have seen it. How can you try to trip someone without it being noticed? If he did, there's no excuse but it will be interesting to see if the TV pictures back it up. I hope they caught the incident on camera - maybe it'll get Barnes off the hook.

The smug self-satisfied apologists on here who leap to Barnes defence with..." this is all overreaction...he's young, he'll learn " are deluding themselves.
He won't learn because he can't learn. He is simply not clever enough as a pro. Temperament is the key to all athletes...the ability to focus and keep as calm as possible under pressure.
If you study Barnes over 90 minutes you see a ticking time-bomb just waiting to go off. He niggles and cheats at every opportunity, often aiming kicks at players behind the ref's back. He dives all the time...he back-chats...he overreacts when things don't go his way. In short, he is just a rather unpleasant character. He is not genuine. He attempts to make up for lack of ability by employing gamesmanship. His actions are selfish, snidey and nasty.
He is not a good enough player for me to overlook his character. Character makes a man. I don't like him as a man and his limited ability at this level is painfully exposed.

So people who defend Barnes are "smug and self-satisfied" whilst your opinion is obviously unquestionable?

Barnes has a problem with his temper, and needs to get a control of this. A bit like Rooney did, and Beckham.

All the other guff about him being an unpleasant character who spends all his time kicking opponents, diving and generally being an obnoxious **** is over the top and for the most part, untrue. He can act like a prick at times, but is generally a solid player whose benefit to the team is obvious to many. You don't like him - so what? By all accounts he's a lovely fella, friendly, humble and sincere.

But yeah, he needs to get help with his temper.

I'm not going to defend him, because I (along with most people on here) don't really know what happened.

But you realise you sound like you're talking about ... almost any premiership or European player

Some people are overacting but many are making the perfectly reasonable point that it Barnes' recent disciplinary record is unacceptable, and there are limits to how much this can be tolerated.

Assuming that he said or did something he should not have is reasonable as the referee sent him off! Officials make mistakes, but not as often as fans suggest, and probably even less often about foul and abusive language.

Has anyone actually defended barnes? (and saying people who think he should be sold are overreacting is not defending barnes for what he did).

So he's been sent off, thats in the past, lets get on with the it, do you think the club is not able to get over this. Its not about blame, the only concern I have is seeing us make the playoffs with or without Barnes. WE'll get there and Barnes may be back earlier or later, but lets not get in a duff replacement striker, we have options and the manager will, as he is paid to do, manage.

Ashley you're a shitferbrains. Don't you WANT to stay selectable long enough to strike up a legendary partnership with Ulloa? Hope the club come down on you like a ton of bricks mate. For your own good as much as theirs. Love your ability to be the striker that CMS never will be, but your snide attitude, and more importantly the timing of your latest red card, stinks. Fukcwit.

Exactly this.

Perhaps you'd like to list those options for us.

How many games have Barnes and CMS started recently, how many goals has Barnes scored recently, Buckley, Lua Lua, Vicente, Spanish ( I can play anywhere and score Dave),. There are loads of options, he did wrong, we don't know the facts. I am not a Barnes apologist just a level headed Seagulls supporter. Good job you lot were'nt on the streets or of NI or in the Gulf with me. Calm down my dear, we will make the playoffs.
