Clampdown on standing, trying to stop live streams and now banning porn?! What a fantastic week this has been! All I need now is for it to be pissing down with rain......

In this age of technology, I don't think even the most skilled parents can stop their kids accessing hardcore porn...

Bull, ****ing, shit.

(sorry)

I agree with a national firewall that blocks out porn but you have the right to opt out and have no firewall. I've got young kids and its just to easy for kids (especially boys) to watch some truly extreme pornography. It means at 11-15 yr olds think that the way sex is in porn, is the way it is in real life. Then they are surprised when a girl actually doesn't want DP in her arse. We learnt about a girls bits by looking at a stolen porno mag when I was at school. But that was it, and it was pretty tame, parade penthouse and the like. Just big tits mainly. But these days, kids are getting corrupted by online porn. So while the EU are going too far, I agree with a national firewall.

Why should I have to opt out ? As a responsible parent I've installed filtering software on all my childrens computers. The internet should be open and it should be the responsibility of individuals to do the blocking if they wish.

Can't see it happening really, as wouldn't it infringe on the "rights" of someone who wants to work in porn?

At the moment, there is nothing illegal about mainstream porn, so how would a ban work for those who rely on it for a living?

How can you be so sure? You are powerless to control what your child sees on other childrens phones & computers

That's hardly a decent argument for banning porn !

Generally I know the houses my children go to have responsible and intelligent adults who would also prevent access to porn for their children. Regardless, I saw hardcore porn as a child and it did me no harm as far as I can tell.

The biggest concern here is that the EU should waste any time at all discussing something that won't happen. Yet another example of the organisation burning taxpayers money.

Proper order! It's about time someone stopped the ocean of filth on the Internet,
television and in the newspapers. Europe needs to go back to Christianity if it is
to have any future at all, and this is a small step in the right direction.

Put a lot of Europeans out of work if they do this and a lot don't work already

And your definition of Christianity is ?

Wanna watch porn, opt out. You have a choice, at least these are the governments proposals. The reason it's opt out rather than opt in is parents. Alot are lazy, too busy or just don't care or try to control what kids see. Therefore an opt out, means it will cover alot more people. I think for the good of kids everywhere, it's worth you having to opt out. It will cover public places and 3&4G phones hopefully. There will always be a way around it, but it will still limit it to alot of kids and therefore is a good idea. This should also extend to websites of extreme violence.

Okay, so let's say they bring it in. Your child's friend's parents opt out of the block. Your kid sees it anyway, so it solves nothing. It's the responsibility of parents, full stop. Not just putting a child lock on the Internet (which is a start) but educating their child, explaining WHY they shouldn't be seeing this stuff. It's a very prudish, British attitude that we don't talk openly about sex. It's just a "block it, keep it hush hush" attitude that makes it taboo and makes a kid or teenager becoming more sexually aware curious.

This is about censorship IMO, not pornography - the Internet is for everyone, and provided it's not illegal I don't see how it could be banned. Lazy argument to blame the internet in the sameway as blaming games/films for violence. There's an age restriction for a reason. The rest is up to the parents.

Its not realistic anyway. Like trying to ban beer, still going to happen just would create a huge black market

Banning anything on the internet is impossible. If it's in 1s and 0s you cannot ban it. You can just try to control it. And fail.

It's close to a technical impossibility to have an opt in / opt out system anyway. How would they identify who you were ? The ISPs aren't going to give anyone a static IP so you can't do it via IP ( and things like Onion would cause havoc with that sort of system anyway ). The only way would be to issue those who opted out an individual username and password - loads of possibilities for hacker misuse there then. Only an idiot would think up such an idea and an even bigger idiot would support it.
