Did I imagine hearing yesterday that Israeli jets have been bombing sites near Damascus? I thought..." oh shit..that'll be chemical weapons" then today...nothing, silence.
did I dream it?

No. You were not dreaming. The ruskies are sabre rattling over Israel apparently bombing a military research centre in Syria.

Don't get excited, they took out a convoy of SAM missiles, and other arms, destined for Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Apparently it was a chemical weapons plant.

That's some bad shit. Apparently Syria are " bound" to retaliate.

The problem with that is that Israel has an ' anything you can do, I can do better ' attitude, so things can get very messy, very quickly.

I would imagine that Syria is not best placed to deal with them just now.

It's on Newsnight now.

Brighton factually.....
Fact Isreal can and does do what the f*** it wants. It will never go away or be solved without extermination of one or the rest.

Not that I advocate extermination of anyone, just I see no way to solve what is going on as it is based o n ideas, faith and hatered of one another.

Very sneeky doing it the day before deadline day knowing NSC will be preoccupied and unable to sustain its usual level of binfestery.

Don't let them win. We are here and ready for a binfest........ Even better it's nearly the weekend!

I guess though, from a neutral perspective, there is a clear difference to be highlighted here, unlike all the other nations in the region, Israel is prepared to live and let live and coexist alongside them all if peace can be achieved, sadly that cannot be said of the nations on the other side of the religious spectrum in the area.

Syria can't retaliate, it has no capacity, beyond a rogue terrorist act to hurt Israel. Syria has reasonable military capability largely funded and supplied by Russia and Iran, but none of it is at the level that Israel can put 'in the field'. Also Syria knows that any attack on Israel will result in massive retaliation..... that knowledge is mainly why there hasn't been a full-scale nation v nation war in that region for some decades now.

In no fan of Israel or how it goes about its business but the fallout from this is quite laughable.

Syria continue to bomb, kill and maim their own people and we aren't just talking the odd few hundred, but tens of thousands.

We then have the Chinese and Russians refusing to condemn a failed government for killing its own people and YET, when an Israeli jet bombs a military facility in Syria, the Russians come out and condemn the actions and call it a threat the Syrian people.

It stinks of hypocrisy and is quite laughable that the Russians who are clearly propping up the Syrian government and are desperately clinging on to the last dying influence they now have in the Middle East.

What concerns me is tat this could be the tinderbox that spreads the fire of war throughout the Middle East...once Syria or Iran retaliate against Israel, we move into dangerous ground.

Whatever they hit, it was a military strike on another neighbour state an incursion that many could call an act of war. To much of the world they are seen as hiding behind the umbrella of U S A protection and get away with literal murder.

Given the size of Syria's military contracts with Russia it's sadly unsurprising that Russia are backing them. Money makes the world go round.

But only on it's own terms and without conceding ANYTHING they've stolen. Lovely country Israel !

Absolutely agree but lets not forget Israel only acted in it's own self interest - it, like the rest of the world, has failed to act in the interests of the Syrian people.

Yes, I am fairly well informed..... else I wouldn't have posted it.
You post a lot of things that you claim to be well informed about, a lot of them are completely wrong as well, especially this latest one, which is basically a pile of steaming horseshit. . Israel wants to live in peaceful co-existence with its neighbours ?
Sure it does , as soon as its grabbed all the land it wants and any Palestinian state is totally dependent on Israel for its lines of communication, power, water and supplies of food , have a look at naftali bennett has to say about a two state solution .

Are you for real.... a whole raft of nations , including us, are providing support to the general population in the worst hit areas, plenty of food and medical aid is being funded and delivered through the various NGO's on the ground.... there is also a stream involving military aid too, though I have reservations about this particular activity and where it will lead,..... but Assad has to go, he has gone rogue.
