Burnley 2 Bolton 0 BBC Sport - Burnley 2-0 Bolton

Burnley went down with Portsmouth and had to sell their best players to survive. They would have a very good team if they could keep their midfielders.
Look poor Lancashire relations to Blackburn, Bolton and Blackpool. Their home record may keep them up but they do not not look like promotion contenders to me.

Players to watch:

Kieran Trippier (left back) long shot from short corners
Dean Marney (central midfield, right sided) engine in midfield
Danny Ings (wide midfield) good crosser of the ball
Charlie Austin (Striker) scored 16 goals last term and 2 this season so far

Look like an effective well balanced side without being particularly dangerous.

Away win forecast looks like about 60%.

With the new signings, you would have thought we could have a classy match thread sometime ?

Ironically, we scored five goals in our game with the fewest shots: 18 v hull, 16 v cardiff, 11 v Barnsley.

(Having said that, I don't think goals are included in most shots tallies, so, adding the 5 goals would give us 16 v barnsley which undermines that irony)

That can't be right Acker. They must include the goals in the shot tally ???

I'm sure in the past I've checked with the espngamescast (Gamecast: Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Barnsley - English League Championship - ESPNFC) on this one it denotes 11 shots for brighton, including the goals, but 7 shots for barnsley who were noted to have had 6 shots, and scored once. In this case it's a penalty, but I'm sure I've seen them have do it in the past when it's not a penalty.

All my forecasts gone out of the window for this season. I thought that Craig Noone would have an early season success before we sold him. Alas, he was misfiring (as usual) so Cardiff are welcome to him. I have never been an Ashley Barnes detractor because I liked Sam Vokes, Billy Paynter, Chris Wood, etc. even less, but he seems to be misfiring this year? By the width of the post.

What did I think about the transfer window dealings? Lopez great as I thought we ought to get a Maxi-type of forward (I thought it would have been good if we actually got Maxi!). But after West Ham and Liverpool and Millwall, I thought we needed a central defender with a presence. Orlandi needed as cover for Vicente (I thought Gai Assulin would have fitted this role?). Navarro had to be replaced so Dean Hammond makes sense. Dobbie was the surprise. as he has been playing in the hole behind the strikers, but presumably with Blackpool he was playing further forward as he scored goals. To my mind he was the best out of all the ones that went to Championship clubs on deadline day, preferred to Bothroyd, but Dobbie is still not tall enough or perhaps strong enough for a deep Wayne Bridge cross? So still a place for Ashley Barnes?

Macca to score today. He has been just the width of the woodwork out as well this year.

When I first went to the Goldstone, they were still talking about a 3-3 draw with the famous Burnley. Not being sentimental. It seems much too far back now. In the first seven or so seasons we did not sell any players as no one wanted them. The first was Lutton in 1971 and I could not see why West Ham wanted him! But we had Willie Irvine then so we did not care.

Burnley have lost Jay (quids in) and got a defender from Derby County called Jason Shackell, who might be a wise buy? 3" shorter than Peter Crouch though. He might even be Burnley's new captain.

We might be best playing the ball on the floor and try to work our way through the Burnley defence. Alas, at corners we are going to have to watch out for Trippier and their giant defender. So odds on something unexpected will happen from a Burnley set piece. A Sam Vokes left foot shot: I don't think so.

3" shorter than Peter Crouch though.

That is the stangest thing I've ever read on here I think. Why make the comparison?! Is there some context I'm missing?

Bizarre.

I think Burnley 0-2 Brighton, Mackail-Smith and LuaLua with the goals.

Went for 1-0 to Burnley in the forecast thread but that was before we signed all those players! I know most can't play but i expect it might put a firework up the **** of a few players and we'll now win 3-1  Barnes 2 and Bruno 1 since he never scores apparently
