If you look closely at the picture it appears to shows a man operating some kind of conveyance, complete with gears/handles and some kind of foot peddle/accelerator.

It is a peculiar image.

it is very peculiar, abstract. its interest how we overlay modern views and assume thats the original intent of the artist. considering the Mayans didnt use the most basic machine of the wheel, its safe to deduce this is nothing more than abstract mindwandering. there are not any gears in that image as they never had any concept of gears (a gear implies a wheel as a parent tech).

It is thought that they may have had knowledge of the wheel actually.

The whole point is that this could suggest the use of technology, or at least the Mayans knowing of, or seeing such technology. The image is quite well known, precisely because of how much it resembles a man controlling some kind of technological machinery.

There are many readings of an image or sign. Others see the central figure sitting on a larger figures headdress where below there are 2 eyes, a nose and and a face with arms reaching up and around supporting the figure who appears to be having something inserted into their nose. This would be consistent with other civilisations shaman or medicine man rituals involving visions and hallucinogenic drugs. Above the figure is the dreamworld state they are entering into with various symbols and related nonsense.

Or its a spaceship...

The Mayans did not have knowledge of aerodynamics or planes either.

also ask anyone with any archaeological training about a very well known saying (in archaeological circles )
the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence (just because you haven't found it doesn't mean it wasn't there)

This topic stands as a shattering indictment of our education system.

Oh come on, it's been an hilariously entertaining thread! Look at the Mayan spaceman vs the NASA one, look at it god damn they're friggin' identical!

Do you believe the planes are "nothing more than abstract mindwandering."?

Scaled up replica models of the plane models made by the Mayans were created for the History Channel to see if they were actually aerodynamically sound and could actually fly.

The Astral Planes, man...
They might not be from another planet, they might be coming back in time from the future. Coming back to ensure that we don't destroy the planet, otherwise they wouldn't exist. So they must have succeeded, I think.

Hey! I was going to say that! UFO's,Aliens etc. are our descendants who have discovered time travel and are travelling back in time.

quite. i vote space ship, because i've taken the hallucinogenics. (ironic?)

The Mayans did not have knowledge of aerodynamics or planes either.

you assume alien technolgy would require our contempory aerodynamic structures. bodies capable of intersteller travel or anti-gravity could just be large blocks. maybe they are modelling birds? or nothing at all, you put them on end and they are just another abstract ornament.

sorry you are wrong

I only relay the commonly held acedemic analysis. i'm not an archaeologist, tell them they are wrong.
