Surely Withdean is the finest indicator of hardcore support. Not many other teams have had the chance to measure up (lucky them!).

Its more than 5k and less than 22k. Its safe to assume its trending upwards with more becoming adicts. A couple of relegations would reveal the new figure, personally I hope thats not in my lifetime.

We have about 90% of our attendance, as STH. At most other clubs its more like 50 or 60%. We are NOT bigger than those mentioned. Look at our ticket sales for the upcoming matches. Very poor show.

I think we have a good hardcore away support.

I only went to the odd Withdean game over the years but often travelled away.

Yes but look how many middles brought last season to Amex. Then compare it to how many we took up there. Piss poor out of these 25000 or so fans only 600 could've arsed to make the trip. Boro nearly took there whole allocation.

Fairer to look after this seAson as not new ground now.

Am I a plastic fan? I have never been to the Amex. Not out of choice but circumstance. I do have a heritage stone as back in 2004 I gave hundreds to the club though. And I was skint as quite fresh out of uni and big debts. If anyone who did not give money then calls me a plastic jcl then they can do one.

Midd away for us was a cold saturday two weeks before Xmas whereas they bought close on 2000 to us at he end of march for a play off contending place match. Good turn out by midd but if fixtures were the other way round then figures would have been much much closer I'm sure

Basing it on that, if we had a hardcore of say 10-15 thousand how can we say a stadium holding a little over 8000 represents our "hardcore"? The rest just couldnt get in apart from when tickets were available

the Goldstone crowds fell lower than that at one stage. I also remember some mid 90's crowds in the third division dropping below 6k.

About '87 to 92 it was about 7k the norm, then fell even lower. Only to bounce up again due to the Archer Bellotti mess. Funny thing is during those 5 years 87 to 92, some goldstone crowds went massive. 26k V Arsenal 87 and 15k (full house) V Liverpool '90. Also definetly some book cooking going on too. I remember a league cup match against Leicester in '94, when it looked like 22k in the ground and the crowd was listed 12k. Unreal!
We have alot of old fans that have come back, alot of potential, but I fear our 22k STH's are not a fair reflection on our size. IMO we are a 15-18k club in the champ.

If you're going down that route, then you may as well say Gillingham. What did we average there - about 3k? Pretty amazing given that our home ground was 75 miles away and we were struggling at the bottom of the football leage with the worst set of players in the club's history.

No, you had to be a bit of a special case to go to gillingham week in, week out. But yes, I would say that the 5k that went to withdean each week are our hard core. People who will go whatever tripe is served up.

I'm not saying this in order to prove myself or to belittle anyone else, but the facts are that when we have a shirt team in shit conditions, around 5000 people can be expected to turn up. This was certainly true at the Goldstone as well as at Withdean.

No I don't reckon so. I don't see us taking 2000 to boro unless it's a do or die game. Just over 1000 tops. We just don't have the fanatical support like the Leeds, boro, Sheffield wed etc

Or the spare cash. A decent two-bed flat in Leeds costs less than a poker one bed flat in brighton.

Is the correct answer.

I take 'hard core' to mean how many would we get if it went tits up and we go back down to league 1. I'd say 15,000. The facilities make it a good experience, regardless of the football.
