He is under contract till 2013, great...If he doesn't want to be here as some people are suggesting then he can rot in the reserves or we can cash in on him. Either way no one player is bigger than this football club and that goes for Vicente or even f***ing Messi.......It's a bad road to go down to all run around one man and maybe that's what Bloom/Barber have decided, because all Poyet does is lick Vicente's arse.....All that said, it's fantastic news and I think too much is being read into all this.

I like this Kev

After reading the NSC twitter. If we have locked Vicente into staying with us or guaranteeing a transfer fee after Poyet explicitly said we woud NOT do this that is a pretty big U Turn.

IF we have done that then I cant see Vicente being any other than pissed off at us breaking our word. Hardly good foundations for next season.

checking on Twitter this is what his missus has tweeted :- Mi Vicente Rodriguez, mi idolo, renueva por un año con el Brighton, hasta el 30 de junio del 2013.
I take that as Vicente is coming. :O

I thought the text was just short and sweet, but given they've posted a longer, colder version on the main site, then he obviously hasn't just signed anything new, but...
if Gus said we won't extend his contract unless he wants to, then it's good news - and it's understandable that he's not here to sort out the finer details
if he's going to go (heaven forbid), at least the club will be after some money for him

That doesn't make sense. We've either done it with his blessing = all good, or he was going to go for free, so what would we care if he's pissed off?

what is your explanation for this: "The 30-year-old is now committed to the Seagulls until June 30, 2013."?

Er, we've exercised the clause in his contract that automatically activates another year on his contract. I think we've already established that!

Nobody knows exactly what is happening, but anyone who thinks this is a cut and dry 'Vicente has signed' is deluded. It quite clearly isn't.

Neither is it a cut and dry "Vicente is leaving" as some here would have us believe.

The truth, as per usual, is somewhere between the two.

I guess we dont care if hes pissed off but hardly a good advert to prospective signings of the way we behave.

Additionaly, I just dont understand why the club released a statement at all. Why not exercise the extension and keep it quiet rather than create a shit storm? Incredibly poor PR from the club whatever is going on!

Don't forget we've just committed to him for another year, injury-prone though he surely is. So if he tears a groin muscle again and is out for six months he still gets paid. I'd be happy about that.

That's not Vicente's wife. That's just a fan, a teenage girl from Valencia called Marina. His wife has been a bit busy for tweeting since she gave birth to their son Sergio a week ago, 18th June and is for sure exhausted since his weight was 4,5 kg.

Yeah , just found out this girl also tweets as VincenRodriguezFan. Will his son follow in his father's footsteps ?

We don't have to hold Vicente to it though. By exercising the option we have the opportunity to keep negotiating with him being a BHA player-this also makes it harder for other clubs to get involved. If by the end of the nagotiations he decides he doesn't want to be here he club can still agree to terminate the contract and release him.

I agree the logic but why would they do that?If Gus and the club were genuine in saying he could go if he didn't want to stay then why not simply continue negotiations after June 30 and if Vicente decides he wants to move on then he does. Exercising the option suggests it wasn't a mutual thing and the statement released is very odd.

I wonder if Barber hasn't stepped in given his remit to maximise revenue ... it always seemed overly generous just to allow him to walk after the investment we made.

I guess the next few weeks will tell us.
