Did gus negotiate the deals? Did Gus agree to pay 2.5m, possibly rising to 3.25m, or did Gus say "I would really like CMS" and then Tony or Ken or John agree to spend that money? Did gus see a kitty of 6 million and think "great, a couple of million pound signings, and 6 or seven half mill signings and it really shapes the squad" only to see the money men spend most of it on CMS?
Is it Tony's money, or is it the club's money from season ticket sales etc?

I am quite happy with our present position in the table,however Mr Poyet`s recent team selections and use of subs does concern me,he has an International striker several good wingers but does choose not to give the strikers the support they need,particularly at our home fixtures.
The walking pace build up to our attacks is very frustrating and before anybody critises me I would refer them to Sam Allardyce`s comments "We said before the start we`try to play in the oppositions half and NOT SLOW THE GAME DOWN"

Ah yes, plenty of incorrect fact banded about. Ones that make me smile are the "On our Budget" ones or Vicente's wages. Like anyone could possibly know. And if you did you wouldnt be commenting on here.

Hard to calculate budgets as we,ve had a lot of loan players that i bet are not cheap,so yeah we need to avoid loan players as that's an unnecessary expense.

I like to think that if TB looks at us finishing higher up the table than likely anticipated, then of course he will continue with the plans had, which involves a little bit of spending. And in the top 10 would be classed as a huge achievement for a first season in a division of remarkable difference to what we're used to. An under-estimate in the annual takings should mean an upping of the budget also. Thankfully, i don't deem TB to be the mental mirror image of the longball-wishing idiots who've taken over here and refuse to identify and accept the excellence of this season and the continued building of a brand the more intelligent of us respect and crave for more of.
Rarely is anything perfect, and we haven't been, but i won't have what we have had this season muddied by dimwits and doubters and yearners for an ugly time gladly buried.

What a brilliant post. The individual decisions, substitutions, signings or player performances can be discussed ad infinitum but they're irrelevant in comparison to the season as a whole. The moaners can't see what a success this season has been; more or less everyone thought we'd finish mid-table so top 8 is above our expectations. It's not an instant success season, it's one season in a project that has a greater scale and importance than Dicker misplacing a pass or Barnes shooting high and wide that the moaners deal with as their bread and butter.
I think West Ham is a one off game for us in this league because we are probably the least physical team in the division. They are built in Sam's image (i.e. they're big, strong players with Premiership experience) and the warning signs were there when we played them at home. We are not a physical team and we can't compete easily with teams that outmuscle us. The fact that Gus still doesn't seem to know his best team is a modest indictment of him but at least he admits that he's still learning, as are the players and, as others have said, most of yesterdays side came from Div 1 not the Premiership. It also seems to me that Gus is much more comfortable fielding teams at home than he is away from home, partly I suspect because instinctively he feels that we need to be far more defensive away from home which automatically puts us on the back foot and restricts the service going forward. These are the issues that need addressing in the summer and I think Gus knows that.

Personally I think bloom will be delighted with poyet. I think they were surprised how well we've done this season, but ultimately does it really matter if we don't go up? Championship is a great place compared to where we've been for the last few years.
1 game does not make or break a season, and poyet picks a team that he thinks will work. Usually it works, sometimes it doesn't. Making up some unsubstantiated figures about signings does not change the facts that this has been abloody great season and we've finished far higher than our budget would have suggested.

This is an interesting thread that, apart from a couple of hints, has completely missed the most important point.
The appointment of David Burke to a position where he is responsible for all recruitment in the club (players, coaches and support staff) is so significant and really deals with this "Will Tony let Gus spunk his millions?" question...
Our club is following a model that, provided it is followed through, almost guarantees our success in the Championship and then in due course in the Premier League.
A crucial plank in the strategy concerns player recruitment. Instead of having a dubiously qualified manager agreeing transfer fees and wages, often on the basis of nothing more than his personal experience of the player, we will be following a professional approach whereby all player recruitment is overseen by David Burke and in particular the negotiation of transfer fees and wages.
Obviously, Gus will still have the final say and hopefully his personal standing in the game will still help us attract players but, for example, the recruitment of a promotion winning goalkeeper (at the right fee and wages) will be more down to David Burke and his team of scouts/analysts than to Gus...

When I first read the OP my reaction was that it won't be Gus who gets to spend any more of TB's millions because Harry's star is waning at Spurs and when he gets the Ingerland job I wouldn't be surprised if Gus is in the running for the Spurs job. If Gus were to move on I certainly can't think of too many managers who would easily improve on Gus' record for us. He would be a hard act to follow, maybe except for one or two of his eccentric team selections, like yesterday.
I am mindful of our so called 5 year plan to get us established in the Premiership. We are 2 or so years into that project and currently still on for a finish well inside the top 12 in the Championship, which back in August I thought would be a reasonable achievement. The Play offs would be fun and a bonus but maybe a step too far at this point. We would be cannon fodder in the Premiership with this squad. Plus Gus and his management team are inexperienced so will make mistakes on the way. Although I would expect him to keep faith with the 5 year plan I could understand TB being a tad frustrated (he is an Albion fan after all) that having got ourselves into the play off positions that we haven't sustained this and our form has tailed off. Yes we performed well against Pompey, Ipswich and Derby but our away tactics and form aren't anything special. Having given Reading a real fright this week I did expect Gus to put out our strongest side at West Ham. I do think TB is entitled to ask why that was.
I do agree that a few players who served us well in Lge 1 will be allowed to move on but won't be the big clear out as some suggest as we do need to retain the core of our squad to give us depth to compete over next season. I expect Gus will strengthen the squad in key areas and guess we will probably have to break our transfer records if we want top quality Championship/ex-Prem players for a proper promotion push. A good start would be to ensure that we keep a fit Vicente and build the team around his special skills. Hopefully David Burke will play a key role, we'll see.

Hasn't been a crap season. But the way its ended has been hugely disappointing. Too say people need to get a grip because we lost to Reading and West Ham is a bit like trying to ignore the issue. Its not just a defeat to these two, its the limp draws at Doncaster, Forest, Brough, Cardiff, the defeat to Burnley. It's that Gus' team selection and tactics have been well off in the past month or so when it was needed most. Gus was brilliant for our club, but we were not as shit as everyone makes out when he took over. Adams took over a top 8 club and screwed it, but most of the players were there. Slade kept us up, but when sacked the squad wasn't as bad as 19th (otherwise he wouldn't have been sacked). Poyet took over a top ten sqaud IMO and with a few additions took us up, and full credit to him.
He spent big in the summer, and against West Ham, which was arguably our biggest game of the season (someone said Southampton, what?) and blew it. Not one of his big signings started. Too me if you don't play your top 4 signings (5 or 6 if you include Noone and Harley) in your most important game of the season, then you've got something badly wrong. If it was just bad luck, you could accept it.
But the man has one style of play. He is unwilling to change that set up, even if it is blantly not working. Fine be that way in the premiership, with a top squad, but its nearly every week he says something didn't do as they should have done... err Gus, ever thought they are not good enough.... oh yer, you said that maybe the case yesterday, so why oh f***ing why, keep sticking to the system the players painfully cannot understand and play.
