Before the apologists go "oh just another long Gus bashing thread" or remind us where we were two years ago, just look at yesterday.

There's no doubt that we have money to spend this summer, but look at how wisely Gus used that money last summer in relation to his sqaud.

Now, West Ham was probably our most important game of the season, the biggest MUST WIN game we had this season and Gus' top signings thus follows

Record Signing Hoskins 500k - Out of Loan
Next Record Signing Buckley £1m - Not in squad/Dropped
Next Record broke CMS £3.25 if he decides to hang around if not £2.5m - On Bench
LuaLua Rumoured at £1m plus - On Bench
Noone Turn down over £1m bid - On Bench

Starting line up total cost £250,000
Bench/not picked cost - Over £6,000,000

They are the type of figures you see in the paper around FA Cup round 3 time, when the non leaguers take on a bigger club

IT WAS A MUST WIN GAME. Most important game of the season

WE LOST 6-0 and can be grateful it wasn't more

Pretend you are the chairman

Your manager does not fail to mention in nearly every interview the budget of the club

You allow manager to spend £6m (which is incredible for a club like us) of your money and in a must win game the team that starts costs £250k and the bench costs around 25 times that and you lose 6-0

Would you as chairman not be a little pissed off. Would allow the manager to splash your cash again, when clearly he hasn't brought players he can use in his system the first time around??

Completely agree, I would not trust Gus after the CMS debacle. Lets hope Bloom is more forgiving...

It would be nice to know what Bloom really thinks about Gus' transfer dealings but we never will.Be interesting to see how much he lets Gus loose with.

This really puts things into perspective.... 6m on the bench and 250k on the field. something fundamentally wrong there. Hate to say it but i dont think gus knows our best squard. We as fans know it so what is Gus's problem? What goes on behind the scenes that makes him pick these teams.

I know he as got us in this position but can he take us any further. Im not sure and would love to be proved wrong

Maybe the fact Gus works with these guys every day of the week and has a far better insight than us ? We see the players maybe once a week, judging by some of the posts on this forum, I know who's the better judge.

I read in the argus that the Albion have BORROWED too heavily this season. This could lead to disaster if repeated. Promotion to the Premiership could take longer than we hope.there are still 9 points to play for so all is not lost yet!

This is where I believe the scout you took from us that is doing Les Reed's role at our club will help. Look at the help Reed has given Adkins (who even if people say he doesn't has a wealth of football experience), Adkins has signed Fox, Hooiveld, Cork, Chaplow, De Ridder, Sharp and Lee (off the top of my head). Quality signings that at worst will be 'squad players' should we go up. The experience of the last 12 months will no doubt have helped Gus and Bloom learn however and I don't think you'll make the same mistakes again. IMO you should be looking at a CB, LB, RB and ST, your midfield is pretty set but if possible the addition of a combative force, similar in style to Chaplow could help you massively.

I hadn't thought about that. Good post.

Stop stirring it Hugo.

JJB has made a very good point. David Burke is the man who will be negotiating the purchases and contracts.

Great Post. I certainly wouldn't trust him if it was my money he was spending

i think we need to spend money next season if we are going to do as well as this season

This. I think we have massively over achieved this season with the squad we have. Nearly half the team needs replacing if we have serious ambitions to get to the premier league

But Tony's two 5 quid each way bets on the National lost.

A friend says not only is Vicente going to Reading but Tony is now potless.

Of course if the players purchased are not up to it, it must be those League 1 players that have got us up the table to challenge for the play off positions. Then of course I read elsewhere that they are not up to it and must go. What is right ? Who has got us up the table and challenging for the play offs ? What about Vincente ? He seems a good acquisition with Tony's funds. I think yesterday was more a question of team selection.
