Don't forget the "shared space" they are creating. This so called "shared space" is the place where people stand to wait for a bus which apparently is quite safe to share with bikes because pedestrians will have the right of way. I do have to wonder if you have to pass a stupidity exam to become a councillor or work for the council
Shared spaces work really well in other countries like Holland and have reduced accident levels. Perhaps they have more tolerant societies? Our society is generally v. resistant to change, always keen to highlight the downside and tends towards the cynical.

No I was talking about from just past Hove Wreck to the Upper Drive. Used to be two lanes, and was still chocca on school rush hour times. I haven't seen down by BHASVIC end yet as it's still shut.

Nope. It's now 30mph all the way out of the city as far as Moulsecoomb Way. From observation and frequent driving experience of passing that particular camera, I think I can say with a fair degree of certainty that NO-ONE ever exceeded 40 mph past it.

That's a ridiculous comparison between two totally different locations. The Halland camera is on a single carriageway road, with poor visibility, in a residential part of a village. It always should have been a 30mph stretch. There are signs warning of an upcoming camera as well. If drivers can't keep to 30mph in those circumstances, they DESERVE to be fined.
As for the threat that 20,000 motorists on Lewes Road "could" come a cropper, I'm reminded of Liam Brady's granny.

That's what I thought when I read that article. Totally fabricated figures just to give a good headline. But, you know, what more do you expect from the Argus.
Because there's now a major accident there nearly every week - yesterday's wiping out the central crash barrier. And yes, it would be the HA.

That road is never a 30. 40 minimum. Also why is there even a camera there? It only slows people down for those few meters.
And another thing! Why are they using such tiny, tiny signs saying NOW 30? Use BIGGER signs then that, psychologically will make people slow right down!!

And, as is traditional, the old camera was out of use for quite a while so that regular users could get used to the new limit first. My car has one of those little dial things on the dashboard that tells you how fast you are going I think the trick is to compare the reading on that with the signs by the side of the road (white and round, red border and a number in the middle) and keep the number on the dashboard at or below that figure.
Not sure if speed cameras have any tolerance built in but I believe that, to give people a bit of a chance, the Police tend not to get too bothered unless you are going over the "speed limit + 10% + 2mph" figure. I am sure that there are posters on this board who are more qualified to confirm this or otherwise.
