Saints Sinking

I'm not entirely sure Nigel Adkins will be that bothered about going out of the FA Cup, if we're honest.

Though I suppose another defeat is never a good thing, he will turn it around and use the positives, ie concentrating on the league. Don't think they had a particularly glamorous draw for the next round anyway??

In fact, seeing as only 8,493 turned up to watch it, it would seem that the rest of Southampton wasn't that bothered either.

I think you may find the draw may have paired Saints with Bolton but, I'm not quite sure. What I am sure about is that since we ripped their bottom with our glorious win they have been unable to sew it back up again!..........

I have watched them a few times and considered their league position was not deserved based on the performances. However points make prizes / the table dosen't lie, before I get shot down.

Would be great to finish above them and I think we will.

I was there tonight. First half they were shocking, second half not much better until Lambert came on. Crowd was embarrassing, couldn't of been more than 10k there, probably less.

How strong was their team? I'm not overly familiar with their squad with respect to who is new top talent and who is reserve/youth prospect, or who is a first team regular (beyond probably four names) if I'm honest. For example, Davies wasn't in goal for them, Lambert and Barnard started on the bench.

Were they underestimating Millwall, or were they not actually that interested in winning? Or was that actually a stronger team than I give them credit for and the loss is a disappointment? I'm sure some saints fans will be on here soon to say something.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if after the fat lady sings we are above stains in the final reckoning! If we got to play them in the play offs (maybe dreaming) I can see a win for us!

I think it is definately worth noting on here that their next possible game would have been Bolton at home, premier side, loads of cash, possible TV extra wonga! What the hell were they doing?

(1) Bolton are a Premier League side in name only
(2) "Loads of cash"? I reckon Saints would struggle to pull 20,000 for that, Bolton aren't a big draw
(3) TV companies wouldn't touch that one with a bargepole.

So all in all, I can understand Adkins throwing this game (not that he exactly fielded the youth team, but you know what I mean).

Automatic promotion for Southampton? Very unlikely. Birmingham will probably claim one of the top two spots, with West Ham perhaps in the other, but I don't think they're nailed on either.

There are about 10 teams at the top of this division that are all fairly similar in quality and whoever pushes their way to the front of them will have a solid defence and a lot of confidence. So it's BHA as champions, then ...

Edna I can see your position but still! Woeful performance and wether Bolton are a big draw or TV will cover it, it is stll extra cash to the chairman. NA might not give a damn but, he will when the losing attitude continues to bite! At least I hope it does............:)

20,000 is still a reasonable gate plus the extra cash for getting through to the 5th round plus a very winnable tie. And if Saints got through to the 6th round that's some serious money (from prize cash, TV and gate), seems a strange move not to take it seriously.

The implosion i correctly predicted following the saints away game. They always looked like blowing up. Although may second prediction of leicester to grab the second automatic promotion spot behind west ham is not fairing so well at the moment. Although on Saturday's evidence it does look like they suffer with similar inexpicable refeering decisions thay we do.

Since (and including) Brighton's 3-0 win over the Saint's they Have only won 2 of 8 (W2 D3 L3) In all Comps.

Or indeed, 3 wins in the last 13 games (W3 D5 L5).

Those 3 wins have come against the 2 worst teams in the league ,Forest 0-3 and Coventry 1-2 (in the cup) with the other being a 2-0 home win over Palace way back on Boxing day.

14 points from a possible 39 is not a good return. I can see Nigel looking over his shoulder soon if they don't improve.
