So what about players then that have little respect for women - John terry, Ashley cole, Wayne Rooney, they are there to set examples too surely - nothing happens to them!!

Tommy Elphick? I'm sure I passed over a tweet from him yesterday where he commented on the nice (or might have been 'great') rack on a girl he'd seen in the gym. At the time I thought it slightly foolish of him to do that.

What an idiot...

I don't think that comment has any place, particuarly with regards to the special nature of homosexual sportsmen who struggle with depression due to such 'banter'.

How do you know its fear of banter? If I was a woofter I would be more worried about getting the sack or no new contract like the hollywood types like ellen degeneres.

Why? What kind of world is it where sexual innuendo by heterosexual males is condemned and yet similar smut on TV by the gay show host brigade is lauded?

So he is effectively accusing Gareth Thomas that, given the right set of circumstances, he will be likely to perform an act of rape on him?

Aye, that's about the size of it - although I can't see thickos like Mr Steele ever being able to grasp the nettle. Doubtless he'll be proud being at least the 2nd footballer to come out of Oxford without an education.

Jeeez we are a sensitive lot.

I find it quite refreshing that persons offer a view, whether it is in jest or god forbid it offers a greater insight to the actual feeling of an individual, even if some find it offensive.

If I was advising a young player I too would tell him not to comment on matters outside of football ( probably inside too !! ) due to the hysteria some comments can evoke.

But let people say what they feel, even if you find it a little distressing !!!!

The 'like giving machine guns to monkeys' comment re footballers on Twitter springs to mind (OK it was cricketers, but you get my point.) Training ground banter does not always look good in print. Jolly entertaining though.

WOW - a homophobic footballer.... whatever next?!?

I take it the OP has not played any level of organised football. Homophobia and racism are rampant at all levels. Primarily because most people who play football, are actually, well pretty darn thick.

I would say that Mr Steele should think about suing his exemployer, bloody ridiculous to sack somebody for something as innocuous as that. Seems to me they jst want to get him of their payroll.

The ideal situation would be for Lee Steele and Gareth Thomas to spend the day together to work through prejudicial opinions.

Using your own prejudice to save us all from.....well prejudice.

Thanks.

It's homophobic and insidious as it comes from a public figure (albeit a minor one, but one still with influence over some) and it continues the stereotype that no-man is safe from the sexual advances of a homosexual, something which is clearly ridiculous (esp if you're as ugly as Lee Steele), let alone offensive. Not really just banter is it.[/QUOTE

Isnt calling someone ugly insidious and offensive go sack ur puritanical and hypocritical self. Ugly people everywhere should be outraged...

1. The punishment seems harsh.

2. Gareth Thomas having sex with Lee Steele would be like a chimpanzee f***ing a chihuahua.

Prejudice. What are you talking about? I have played football at a few different levels, and at all of them I have witnessed homophobia and racism. Not necessarily placing a value judgement on it, just saying thats the way it is.

I take it you haven't played a lot of football, bud?

What "they feel". So, in Lee Steele's case, what he feels is "fear of being raped by a gay rugby player"?

Cannot help thinking he doesnt feel threatened by homosexual rape at this moment in time.

It was a useless and ill advised comment, but hey so what.

The club will see it as gross misconduct which is instant dismissal.
