Agree 100%

The ends battle was superb as well. Some people felt it meandered inbetween but as a whole. It it was a fine achievement imo and Tom Hanks best performance.

Duel grabbed me. I had never seen that on the TV before. The Suspence ! It was made for TV but got a theatrical release afterwards. Close Encounters of the Third Kind got me as a 15 year old Boy. I saw it 7 times at the Cinema and from then I was hooked.

He has of course made some great films (with equally great budgets) and I have enjoyed most of the films listed by US. However I do find his work overtly sentimental, too glossy and lacking in subtlety.

He said it was his greatest achievement. ET is his favourite.

Oh! All-right then Saving Private Ryan is my favourite. ( As were your hand gestures to Saints supporters.)

For me sentimentality is not a bad thing. In an often cold and cynical World , I love Spielberg the most for the hope he sends out. From the Alien getting home, to the impossible of finding good amoungst the Holocaust. I am sure War Horse will deliver the same Spielberg magic. Not for everyone but it is for me.

Boring By Sea
Jaws.
A film in two parts. The first hour focussing on the attacks in the town and the second on the developing relationship between the three main actors. It was the first proper Summer blockbuster and is in my top ten films of all time.

Always on the other hand is frankly dreadful.

Definitely not a bad thing, agreed. His message is often a positive one even when the subject matter is dire in the extreme.

It is his weakest film for me but did have a magnificent scene with the planes and the water trying to put out the fire. Still, its better than most directors efforts imo and his worst film is still better than most directors best film. Well thats my opinion anyway.

A classic in my eyes Unc. Haley Joel Osment's performance is one to behold (the less said about his more recent drink/drug driving conviction the better)

This film had superb scenes. Ground breaking. The fact he had the twin towers as part of Man destruction , years before it happened was spooky in the least. The 3rd part , often derided , was for me, the best part when it all came together. All in all I think AI is his most underated work.

I'd probably just go for Schindler because the acting was better but it is a tad long

Ralph Fiennes losing to Tommy Lee Jones for the fugative is generally considered to be one of the greatest Oscar screw ups off all time. Neeson could well have got a statue and Kingsley was magnificent as well.
