Forgetting the Muslim bit for a second as no doubt people are going to get wound up by it, if 4 girls attacked your girlfriend and you were there at the time, how far would you go to defend her? Would you just try and block / pull them off her, or would you actually throw punches?

I agree that it was a disgusting racial attack, and to me it makes no difference what race the aggressers were, but they escaped jail FFS, I was just wondering if the judge would have viewed it differently if the attack had been the other way round

I don't want to be cynical either - and if the details are accurate then I do agree the group should have gone to jail - however I can't help but notice that the Mail blames the fact the sentence was suspended on their religion when the actual quote from the judge says no such thing - in fact the paragraph near the bottom of the article even suggests it was for a completely different reason (the actions of the boyfriend).

Must have been a slip on their part; I'm sure the Daily Mail wouldn't deliberately word an article to wrongly suggest that a group of Muslims received preferential treatment in the UK because of their religion.

It doesn't really matter anyway, they may have escaped jail but I cant see Allah being so forgiving of them for drinking alcohol.

From what I've read in the Leicester Mercury there are allegations that the boyfriend was the one making the racial abuse ..........

Probably no witnesses to verify it though.

If you're going to "get this straight", I suggest you read all sides of the story. Both sides claimed they were racially abused first (the defendants by the boyfriend).

I do agree they should have gone to jail if what the Mail say is true - but as above, other newspapers have more details and allegations that the Mail have not printed. (I'm not commenting on why the Mail may have chosen to not print the allegations that the boyfriend racially abused them first).

I don't understand how this makes any difference at all. If someone is racially abused, are they then allowed to attack the abuser until they are kicking them in the head whilst they're unconcious?

I'm sure the Mail are spinning this a bit to please their readers, but there isn't an excuse for attacking someone like that (unless they were eating cupcakes in Hampstead of course).
