She is a selfish woman that has sucked £200 000 ( probably fraudulently ) from our NHS, it has implications for many qualifying men and women that are currently fighting illness here in Britain.
The NHS has always had to prioritise, today more than ever, why dont you ask the dementia and Liver cancer sufferers that at present cannot access drugs that may offer some palliative care or even cure due to the ever increasing costing pressures.
You try telling them that they are 'just a drop in the ocean' !!!

As other posters have pointed out previously, this issue was about health care provision as the person in question high tailed it on to a flight to the UK soon after becoming pregnant. Airlines should, in my opinion and indeed probably do, seek medical information about passengers and if she was pregnant, the question of whether or not she should have been allowed to travel is one for doctors BUT also for immigration authorities in the UK.
Emergency treatment under the NHS is one thing but this appears to have been the calculated act of an intended illegal immigrant. Now the country is facing the prospect of this person (and five others not to mention potentially other hangers on) seeking to remain in the UK at what enormous cost probably no-one can even work out.

Have you ever thought that this woman is privileged, she accessed funds that others within her own community could not, she then comes and takes money from those already fighting illness here.
Again become a Nigerian just for a minute and tell me how your politics stand up in this case.
Why should she have free access to our NHS and her friends and fellow Nigerians are doomed to their own healthcare.
She is the ultimate private health care grandee.
She has the money, criminality and cunning to fraudulently access healthcare that her fellow Nigerians could only dream of.
The other 150 million plus Nigerians are condemned to take their chances within their own system

A drop in the ocean considering the amount that it wasted by the NHS, not even considering the other agencies that are wasting our money or just plain ripping us off. That is why this story is a smokescreen, they are trying to get you all het up about this lady while concealing the atrocious abuse and waste in other areas of government and big business.
Good, my mate Dave's been on the benefit fiddle for years, never worked never will.
Great lad though and has a lovely 'drum' with 4 bedrooms, he has some kids you see, all paid for luvvly jubbly.
Free school meals, got a nice car, disability does a good deal at the moment.
You see its not the benefit that is the problem, its the fraud that offers access to the benefit which is criminal and blocks genuine claimants from their entitlements.

Government after government have tried to eradicate economic waste within such a vast system I would suspect its difficult and they will continue to do so, but why would this then offer a reasoning to give care to the tune of £200 000 to this chancer.
Should it allow me to go and nick a lorry load of bandages our of the Brighton General tonight, I would suspect not.
It wouldn't be fair, legal and it would effect people that might need a bandage tonight !!

You are so outraged by this story about 200,00 pounds but are apparently resigned to the fact that the NHS wastes billions of pounds. There is the relevance as a smokescreen it has worked.

I think again you are misinterpreting what I have been posting, not too sure how though.
I do not accept waste or misuse of our NHS funds at any level, it has its consequences.
Save 5 lives .... jeeeez the pregnancy is likely to be the first of a whole raft of her actions that will again drain resources of our public services, something in my view she has no right to access and of course she is not alone, why would she be.
If she wasn't pregnant you dont think she would be satisfied to work and contribute to her own community in Nigeria do you ?
Her and cohorts can see an easy life here, where she might be housed, cared for, educated and pampered supported by a gaggle of greedy immigration lawyers again dipping into the legal aid honey pot, she didnt need to be pregnant to be tempted !!!
This wasn't a life or death situation for this woman or her babies, this was a planned, selfish and ultimately an action with total disregard for anyone here in Britain, if not funded by criminal Nigerian brokers both here and Nigeria then funded by herself offering an insight to a woman with some comparative wealth who just didn't want to spend her own money, but was happy to spend mine.
She's here for the long term guys and she and her new found lawyer friends cannot wait to tell her mates back home.
I suspect that if she was American and white there wouldn't be quite such a kerfuffle.....

Do you make this many negative assumptions about everyone or just Africans?

If there was misuse of the NHS money by Americans, I would be the first to be just as 'outraged', but ooooh so would you.
But when an African or one of those, well you know, from that continent that we help during red nose week, you feel uneasy to comment on !!!
Its your form of inverted racism, you do not need to be black or mixed race to comment reasonably on African issues especially as it directly effects us here, you really do not, its patronising to them and to us.

b) Give be a positive conclusion about mismanaged public funds .....

there would not be such a kerfuffle in the press no. i accept that this article appeals to darker motivations than simply fairness in allocation of resources. but believe me i do not need the sun or the mail to tell me what the impact of west african migration to the UK has been on resources. i also know from many personal accounts how sophisticated (relative to the culture exemplified by some on here of blissful ignorance or lack of will to challenge) and aware many west african migrants are when it comes to accessing resources if not illegally but to the fullest extent the system currently allows.
if you knew how many children were sent here unnacompanied and dumped on local authorities you would be astounded. i personally know a woman recently jailed for bringing in 12 kids in batches claiming they were her own from nigeria and is now in jail for benefit fraud when someone finally sussed she could not have been pregnant with these kids often concurrently.
good luck to everyone compassionate enough to not see an issue or at least are comfortable with it. its great and how it should be. but if its genuine and not just a meaningless easy option for your conscience remember that it all comes at a cost to someone. if you feel you are shouldering that burden equally then you can look yourself in the eye.

I think you make some good points here Spanish. Maybe we should be looking at the causes of the problems that people are fleeing from in Africa and Asia. For example the $100 million paid to western creditors by the world poorest countries. Maybe we should be pressuring government and business to break this strangle hold on developing nations and allow them a fairer share of humanities wealth. Instead of being outraged by the symptom of this system, a mother trying to do everything in her power for her family.
To be fair TS, our links with West Africa come from the slave trade, and the centre of the UK slave trade was Liverpool, and if ever there was a city adapted to maximising access to benefits......................
But you are ignoring the fact that the story would never have been published in The Sun in the first place, so this discussion would not have taken place.
I think you have both made valid points, there is a big issue in Africa in that there is institutionalised corruption, nepotism and cronyism, and that a significant proportion of legitimate humanitarian aid never reaches its intended targets.
How that issue is addressed is beyond us all I fear.

the causes of migration are not really up for debate. few people up sticks unless they need to. what we see as pretty basic living is very very attractive to the vast majority of the world. if these places have a higher standard of living or indeed any then we would not see this mass movement of people. if you are sitting in a lagos slum and uncle adebayo is western unioning money back has a nice flat and a car and can get you over then why the f*** arent you going to do that. the whole world is on the move now we will look at back at this current period as quaint.
i am just asking people to accept that a lot of this is common knowledge and far more sophisticated than the systems trying to regulate it, and the 'well its alright by me' attitude penalises people at the sharp end. add the often implied thatcher generation snobbery (often from people who genuinely believe themselves to be liberal and compassionate) that birtish people who are struggling somehow deserve to be at the sharp end of this and that is my problem with this whole thing. its sad and makes me worry about britain when even the people who think they have it totally right dont really give a shit about people unless its the ones the live aid generation have been programmed to.
like i say, put 40 000 west africans in the city of brighton and hove tomorrow and lets have this debate again in a year.
