Having a debate with my work colleage about making Tea. He puts the milk in before the hot water which I believe is wrong and he could have a much better cuppa if he puts the milk in last. Whats the best or correct way?

legend has it the poor use to put the milk in first, so the boiling water wouldnt crack their cheap arse cups. the wealthy with fine china would put the milk in last, because this is the PROPER way of doing it.

though i always put the milk in last, its more convenient with teabags. the question is, milk in before or after the tea bag out?

Had this debate out with a northen friend.

I put boiling water on first, this allows the tea to dispurse properly and to make a decent and rich tea. Milk first doesn't quite do it for me but it does taste OK, just never feels as hot!

Yep your right mate, milk in last so the hot water can properly brew the tea before the milk goes in & cools it down a bit

I also always put the milk in last.

With a cup of coffee I always put the milk in before the boiling water tho.

The tea will only brew properly with very hot water, so there's is no point in reducing the temperature by adding cold milk first. I tend to add milk before I remove the tea-bag though, as I can judge the strength by the colour - only after leaving the bag in for at least 4 minutes.

This is the correct answer.

How can you possibly know how strong your tea is going to be if the milk is already in there? I find the people who make it like that usually leave the bag in for about 20 seconds and you get given a cup of milky water.

for me tea bag tea in a cup is simple, pour water onto tea bag, once tea is brewed take bag out and add milk

however if you are making a pot of tea then put a little milk into a cup and pour brewed tea from pot on top, you can always top up with more milk if required

Pot tea is obviously different as you've already brewed it in the pot, so I agree in this case.
