Agree with this.They have spent about 6 seasons in the championship and by the sounds of it paying over the top in wages so they can compete at that level.Now they are in dire straights because of this and me personally couldn't give a monkeys about them or there future.Another club spending beyond their means which pisses me off.

Exactly, I see Leeds are in a play off position right now for example, they've come a long way in three years. Far too many clubs living beyond their means (and yes I know without TB's cash we'd be the same).

All sounds a bit depressing if that's the case for a club like Plymouth, who can pull in a 20k crowd on a good day. What hope for any of us 'mid-sized' clubs in terms of being competitive in the Chumpionship?
Pull in 20k? Unless it's Man U or a title winning game i very much doubt it.Funny how there gates are around 6k this season.

I've got to admit that I find this attitude slightly strange. We had a long, slow, painful and near fatal demise which I always thought had it's routes in the late seventies and eighties. I may be wrong-and if I am please discard the rest of this-but I was led to believe that we got into financial trouble because we too paid wages that in the long term we were unable to afford. We then became a selling club, having to offload players to even the books, culminating in selling Beeney to Leeds at the last minute to stave off a winding up order. It was this parlous state of affairs that led to Archer getting his grubby little hands on the club. Or at least that's how I've understood it.
So it seems strange- when a club like Plymouth who haven't wildly overspent(as far as I'm aware) now find themselves in a similar position to us in 93- that there are people who don't have any sympathy for them. They appear to realise that they need a fire sale of players to keep themselves going and are readying themselves for it. At the same time they would ideally like to keep as many of their better players as they can. I hope they can raise the money needed whilst avoiding having to completely decimate their squad. If they were going the portsmouth, leeds, southampton, leicester etc route of willfully and spectacularly overspending and then shrugging, going into administration and coming out the otherside smelling of roses after having cheated the country and numerous businesses, organisations and charities out of millions and millions of pounds then yes, I would have no sympathy with them either. But that doesn't seem to be the route they're taking. As I said, they seem to be in a similar position to us in the early 90's. We all know how that went so I do sympathise with them, they're teetering on the edge and it could all go horribly, horribly wrong for them.

Spent the weekend with family, many of whom are Plymouth fans. They are frankly nonplused by it all. Seems to have crept up on them and the possibility of relegation to Div 4 has hit them like a wall. Was barely 12 months ago they expected to survive in the Championship and then press on again. They've got dodgy people in charge (in terms of their involvement with the club) and are stuck with hefty wage bills because they just didn;t plan to be plumetting down the leagues - not because they have been reckless with spending. They were all pretty depressed and deserve some sympathy. And if we could help by agreeing to buy Noone when they needed the guarantee of money then all the better.

It's quite true that our demise started when we got relegated and were paying a squad First Division wage but like Bristol City (who also crashed down to the basement even faster than we did) we too paid the price. There is one significant difference though, we didn't go into Administration (neither did Bristol City) because the concept didn't exist then. We paid our debts in full (hence the fire sales of the likes Dean Saunders). In it's current form (The Enterprise Act of 2002) it allows clubs to fleece their creditors as we have seen time and time again.
However Plymouth got into debt was plain mismanagement, harsh on their supporters but at the same time would they have been in the Championship for long if they hadn't overspent ? We had two brief spells there and have struggled until this season to9 get back. The same applies to the likes of Palace and Leicester but Leeds and Portsmouth are just outrageous. Like any business you get into debt and you have to sell your assets to stay solvent.
The bottom line is, how did they get into debt ? It's not rocket science.

Unfortunately it is the law of the land rather than footbal laws which allow clubs like Portsmouth and Leeds to exploit it. Until they are tightened up will we have to accept it because the fooball authorities are not going to get their house in order as it doesnt serve their means.

Wth fax etc could they not sign him and do all the paperwork during the evening of 31st and then fax it off after midnight to register him. The problem may be that the FL office will probably not be working on New Year Day so the first opportunity to register him would be Mon 3rd January.

I would prefer an older versatile full back who is equally at home in either full back position as Tarrico is but somebody younger than him.

Just read that he's on 4 bookings, so if he plays for Plymouth tomorrow and gets a booking he will be suspended for his first game at his new club!!

He needs to get booked for dissent or kicking the ball away tomorrow and hope Plymouth play on New Years Day and sign for us on 3rd Jan. He then serves his suspension on New Years Day so wont get injured and is clear then to start with us with a clean sheet.
If not provided he gets booked in the next game he will miss the cup game against Portsmouth which is not a problem.

He could always scorea goal and take his shirt off as he waves goodbye to the Plymouth fans. Nobody would be unhappy about that. The difference with Steve Foster is that bookings werent given so free and easy in those days. It is easy to get booked now.
