I went there last year too and got bored after a few days. Very little for visitors, unless you like gaudy shopping malls, hot and unsightly with loads of building sites, and awful macho driving. And horrendous racism from the qataris towards the thousands of workers from India etc

Funny you should mention that. My cousin is an oil industry executive. As part of his training, he did a spell working on oil well developments in Dubai. The owners were all sheikhs, the project managers were English, Dutch, German or American and the people who did the manual labour were Indians. My cousin turned up for work one day and the workers had not got there, so he attempted to start up a hawser himself. The boss told him to stop, as if he had been injured, it would have cost the firm more than if one of the Indians had been killed.

It sounds a little like Dubai in that respect. When I was there, admittedly a few years back now, it appeared very much a three tier society.

The Arabs are obviously the indigenous people, and run everything. Then you have all the Western ex-pats working out there in IT and other well paid sectors. They were mostly in the middle.

At the bottom were all the workers from the sub-continent, the labourers who build all the flash buildings and highways and do the dirty work, the ones who you'd see sat by the roadside eating their food, in 45 degree heat with no shade, as the next Mercedes sped past.

Nobody should go to the 2022 WC. South Africa was full of passionate football fans - hosting the world cup in Qatar is a very bad joke.

This scandalous decision, and how it will be revealed it was arrived at, could well be the beginning of the end for FIFA.

This is from "10 reasons why Qatar sucks":
1) Qataris are unintelligent/ materialistic/ ignorant/ ugly bastards. I find it f***ing hilarious that such people have all this wealth, which they only use to buy the most costly of things and live in the most expensive manner.
2) Qataris are racists. They treat Indian and Filipino employees like slaves (underpayment, unjust sponsorship laws, passport seizure ... etc.) just to have more money to spend on their precious Porsches and Lamborghinis.
3) Driving in this asshole-land is horrifying. Indians, I must admit you’re a funny race with your wobbly head thing, your nasty and unearthly smell and all. But when it comes to driving, GO f***ing LEARN HOW TO DRIVE. A blind cripple will drive better than you, fuckers. Qataris drive just as bad.

Anyone who gets bored in Qatar during the WC can always pop across the border to Saudi Arabia for some real hardcore fun

I know I've posted this on 2 different threads already but it needs to be said - only 1 vote for Australia for 2022, ffs. Football is now dead in the water here, no one is going to plough the sort of cash that frank Lowy has been doing into the game and dear old Frank will be dead before the next bidding round for 2026. FIFA say it's all about spreading the world game to all corners of the earth - like f*** it is, Qatar in air conditioned stadiums, might suit those pampered EPL players but seriously....

It's absurd that such a small nation can be allowed to host a World Cup. I has no league of it's own, has a lot of restrictions such as alcohol that other countries don't have, it has temperatures that are totally unsuitable for any outdoor game let alone football and the country itself has no other features to entertain visitors (apart from the abundance of prostitutes that is). I could just about understand it if the U.A.E. had been the winner but this decision is a joke that is not in the least bit funny.

As far as Russia is concerned it would seem quite appropriate to award the World Cup where organised crime and corruption are so prolific. Of course I an sure all the countries with coloured players will delight in the abuse they will get from more than a small minority of fans,

Well done again f***ing Idiots For Avarice.

Surely these unsustainable states will be in meltdown by 2022?

Hello ??? Qatar unsustainable? It has the 2nd biggest gas reserve in the world (funnily enough after Russia) ! . It is finding more. Financially they could blow us out of the water . The money they spent on the Asia games two years ago was frightening, with quite amazing stadiums . It will still be a shit World Cup there, as the only really populated place is Doha . (Officially described as the most boring city in the world). The only thing in meltdown will be the football supporters trying to get around .... 45- 50 c and massive humidity. Once inside the stadiums all will be ok.....they will be roofed and air conditioned ! The last thing that Qater is, is unsustainable .
