In relation to the Wembley tickets, at the first game I got talking to some Man Utd fans with tickets in the lower tier of our end. They showed me their tickets, all of which had "Middlesex County FA" stamped on the back. Most of the lower tier got distributed through the numerous county FA's. At the replay the Albion got most of the lower tier tickets, as the FA didn't have time to distribute them through the County network.

Steve Foster told me at his testimonial at the Metropole Hotel, that in his contract the club agreed to pay his Mortgage for the period of his contract, so with that he went a purchased a bigger house...... that's called bad management on behalf of the board, but being bloody clever on behalf of the Legend that is Steve Foster

what prompted the utd friendly the following season?
Why won't you answer my question?

But to answer yours, I dunno. What prompted the friendlies against Spurs, Villa and Forest that we also played in that era? Big clubs used to do that.

I know the TRUTH, as does DEAN WILKINS (SEVENTH HEAVEN!!!!!), and it was his discovery of the TRUTH that led to the sacking of one of the GREATEST young managers in this country by VOLDEMORT himself.

Without revealing too many details, all I can say is Former chairman..........Cup final money.........solid gold statue of himself in the back garden with his head SUPERIMPOSED onto that of Gordon Smith scoring the first goal at Wembley, and a swimming pool made of recycled KFC bargain bucket wrappers from the Guy Butters era at the Albion.............how did he afford it, I KNOW, as does DEAN, and that is why he was sacked.

The match was prompted or instigated by Townsend Thoresen themselves.

Before 1987 they were a massive company and had advertising hoardings all around the Goldstone.

Don't forget in the summer of 1983 Albion were a big attraction we also played Real Madrid that summer.

TT negotiated the match after the Cup Final and made it more than worth United's while to come down.

My Dad used to work for the company who printed the 'next match' hoardings at the time. So it was definitely arranged in late May early June.

:fishing:Fishing for the truth my friend, why would this subject keep cropping up after 27 years if there was nothing in it?

The same reason the moon landing question keeps cropping up now and then.

There are a load of sad individuals with nothing better to do.

And for that, I'm out.

Whoooah. The Albion played Real Madrid in 1983! Shamed to say it, but this I did not know. What was the background of this?

I wonder who are the current holders of the Townsend Thoresen Cup....

I believe it was a one off match/trophy. I think we had a couple a matches in Spain in mid August 1983. The United match was August 9th I believe.

The Albion were a massive club in those days I bleieve Madrid approached us for a match. We lost 1-0
