Whats the deal? Why do we hold him in such bad light?

Did i miss somthing? Wasn't he capped when playing for us, and then described as "a credit to your club"? What happened?!

Too many errors basically. When he was good, he was very good. However I seem to remember that he did flap sometimes, and had a penchant for dangerous punches to onrushing strikers. I was well proud that we had an international keeper in Hendo, but at the same time he wasn't consistant in his Brighton performances.

The last straw came at Bournemouth away on new years day (surely that will be on youtube?), which I still don't think it was his fault, but his error effectively ended his Brighton career.

Meopham, Kent.
Basically, the moment Dean Wilkins took over, Wayne had a big flounce demanding to be 1st choice keeper.

Although he did accept that he would have to fight for his place, it continued to bubble under, and despite some ropey performances along the way he was aghast whenever he was dropped. I think there was even one time when he was dropped after spilling crosses, and pushing them onto onrushing forwards rather than to safety, when he turned round and said something like "I can't have been dropped for footballing reasons ...".

In short, a decent keeper who thought he was much better than he was. It was the arrogance and attitude of being better than us, that got up peoples noses.

How was that Bournemouth goal not his fault?

I think the problem was that he seemed to be preferred to Kuipers by virtue of the reputation/glamour surrounding him. As opposed to being the better player.

Pro-Kuipers lot: he's the worst goalkeeper ever

Anti-Kuipers lot: he's the best goalkeeper ever

truth is he wasn't either, he was 'alright'........did some good stuff counter balanced with a few howlers......had f*** all confidence which was a shame

I'm still in the 'blame the puddle' camp. However, I'm willing to review the evidence, given the 3 or 4 years must have passed...

On the day I was too busy trying not to get hypothermia, it was very cold and very wet.

His biggest problem was that he wasn't Michel Kuipers and the noisy lot ousted him. Mind you, he was a bit shit too.

he did a good job for us, don't speak bad of the departed.

his main wekaness was when blocking shots, rather than parrying around the post or over the bar, he had a habit of blocking the ball and putting it right back into a danger area, and often for a tap in.

He wasn't the worst keeper I've seen play for us but like others have said, he had a habit of parrying shots straight to an onrushing striker rather than away from danger.

His treatment by some Brighton fans at the end of the Bournemouth game made me cringe.

For me, he seemed to constantly make mistakes, come out and apologise for it, then make the same mistake again. The mistakes he made led to us losing the points that would have kept us in the championship.

While this may paint me as pro-kuipers, but that year the team performed better with kuipers in it than with Henderson, yet, henderson was constantly being given chance after chance, at the cost of the team.

As for him being capped as an international, he was, but as the third choice irish goalkeeper. There were only two irish goalkeepers playing at or higher than our level, I wouldn't hold his cap up as evidence of him being good by professional goalkeeping standards, just irish professional goal keeper standards.

Surely the main issue here is that, as a goalkeeper, he was facing the wrong way?
