I found a gem of a piece of film on the wonderful British Pathe film collective now available on line. You can find this particular item by using the search engine and typing in "Brighton Football". Its actually about Arsenal training at the ground in 1938.

Interesting how the crossbars on the goals appear to have been lowered, anyone know why that would have been?

This was mentioned in The Wookiee's thread Newcastle v Brighton 1930 ??? - North Stand Chat in which he also discovered a 1930 cup game Albion played at Newcastle (see the thread for the reference). However the Arsenal training at the Goldstone is the earliest footage I have seen at our old beloved ground (RIP)

Where the f**k was our defence for that goal, opened up like a tin of sardines.....

Thank you MKS - loads of rubbish posted on NSC. This wasn't one of them. As you say, a gem.

There are a few bits and pieces knocking round of the Goldstone in the early days, some in the BBC archive.

A mate of mine has been working on that site for a few months. Nice to see it up and running.

It's a fabulous site - I've just spent the last hour browsing for places I've lived in, and there's some remarkable footage. Street and traffic scenes from the 1890s, fascinating to see. Well done Pathe for getting it up online :)

To make them the same height as they were at Highbury ?

That site is chokka with grade A hand shandy material - some bloke from Patcham in 1949 with his home made telescope, 1973 footage of Brighton, German prisoners in Newhaven in 1941, some old army General opening a soldier's club in Seaford in 1914...
