FA Cup 5th Round

Newcastle Utd 3 - 0 Brighton & Hove Albion
Att: 56,469

Brighton had made it to the 5th round by virtue of beating Peterborough & Fletton Utd, Barry Town, Gimsby Town (the giant-killing they were referring to) and Portsmouth.

This was the season where High Vallance scored 30 league goals, a record that stood for 47 years.

But it will have to be renamed "... Glory Years of 1930-83"! There is some great footage of Brighton and Hove (the towns and their events) in the Pathe archive. One other of my favourites though is British Pathe - ARSENAL IN TRAINING AT BRIGHTON with great shots of the 1938 Arsenal side training at the Goldstone (RIP:cry:), the oldest film from inside the ground maybe (?). The commentary is hilarious - typical Pathe News voice.

Classic stuff! I would love to have a camera that filmed in those slightly yellowy early colour pictures....

Yes, some excellent footage of Brighton the seaside town in the early 1970s

I wonder what the point was in putting another - lower - cross bar on the goal about 6 inches below the usual one ?

And I WAS right on re-looking at it - at least one player is training in a three piece suit - with tie!!

Well spotted! No idea.
