Davis might prove him self, or he might simply not. I didn't really see him much, but from what i heard from a mate, he was shite. And that he was better on the wing. Hart also, was always a right mid who can go up front not a striker who can play on the wing. I think Anyinsah looked good, when he played he looked like an winger version of Owusu. Strog and doesnt take crap.

Brian Horton signed OGH as a striker, he was then moved out to the wing, then to midfield then to full back, and was even muted as an emergency goalkeeper if we didnt have one on the bench..

By the looks of it he takes a mean freekick AND pens too. So definately not a bottler in my book. Has been studying at Loughborough as well so must be an intelligent lad to boot. (scuse pun)

Sorry but I couldn't resist pointing it out!

I can see people's points about striker not being our priority position. However, we only have four strikers on our books having lost Owusu and they are:

Forster - not getting any younger and had a few injuries last year
Murray - had a few injuries last year and questions over his future
Davies - not proved himself yet (although I think he will do next season)
Hart - I think he is more effective as a winger as a number of his assists came from wide positions

So looking at that you would say we need a striker. £400K is a lot of money but I am sure Slade knows what he is doing. He had almost universal support at the end of last season but now he has released a few popular players and is being linked with a few that people aren't convinced by, the moaning is starting again. Why don't we just trust him for now and be excited that we are being linked with spending £400K on a player when a few years ago it was unthinkable.

Spot on... everyone who was released was at best lower L1 and, yes, that includes Sullivan, Fraser and Loft (L2 at best for the latter two), IMHO...

I am not about to start the slating of RS but I also do not see what the over the board hero worship is about. Yes he kept us up but only by doing what any person given the job would have done played the players in their best position he didnt suddenly become a tactical genius that made us an all conquering side. Like many I do not think that striker is our main priority at the moment unless he is unconvinced by the fitness etc of Murray and Forster that they will last the distance. I would be much more ecstatic if the papers had said that we had been similarly linked with a goalscoring winger or creative midfield player.

Actually, we were THE form side in the whole of L1 at the end of the season... and we needed to be to stay up, so YOU are under-valuing Slade's fantastic achievement... that said, I would agree that we need to invest in the midfield as a priority, and maybe we will... the £400k is just paper talk after all... and who is to say TB won't put up the same or more for other (midfielder) players...

Exactly,

the 400k might be the indication of what is to come. Remember Andrew and Owuso are both now gone, so strengthening in this area is needed.

Leroy Lita is available on a FREE transfer. So, how about we give him the £400,000 being talked about here (as a sweetener), at least we will be getting somebody we know will hammer the goals in for us??!

Isnt he supposed to be a bit of a handful in the wrong way? Danny Graham could be available easily at that kind of money, or Akinfenwa who caused us problems home and away who is big and strong. This is though presuming we want simpson as a striker.

I keep telling you it is all about Adam Le Fondre of Rochdale

Jesus, I can't believe someone else has said it atlast!!! :ascarf:

He is genuine class, through and through. I would rather we signed him (though I still don't think we should even be considering buying another striker before sorting out the midfield...), someone who actually scored 20 odd goals last season.

Someone else who has seen the light! he would guarentee us goals and be half the price of this simpson bloke, as well as having much better goalscoring record(admittedly in a lower league though)
Plus he is complete flair, with the socks pulled up over the knees with the long shorts:bowdown:

bit of a limited approach isn't it about signing players in prioirty???

in real world managers choose a number of positions and try and fill them as and when they can.

owusu didn't sign. therefore a position is still to be filled. player is/maybe available that has been identified as filling a position, therefore enquiries/talks ensue.

what's the problem??

I have suggested him many times!
He is Flair at its finest, or Beyo Akinfenwa?
