I went along to the Durch Bike shop last summer - and had a very nice walk along the front - and made a note to come back this summer.

We sometimes used to drive acoss to Littlehampton when we were young as one of the few sandy beaches around.

Remember the Micky Mouse (was it called that) roller-coaster ?

The big mouse mini rollar coaster was a horror, I do not remember straps and it always felt like you feel out but were caught at the bottom as the small car shot you back up.

Scary as hell when I was a kid.

The Beach and River are lovely on a nice day, and will suprise alot of people at how nice it is.

The Town centre is instantly forgetable, Wick estate is a dump but every town has its crap bits. I grew up in Lewes and Brighton so have now loyalty to LA but have to say the Beech and River are very nice.

And it had that bit when you seemed to be outside of the structure. It was scary. But fortunately - it didn't last for long.

Exactly, plus the fact that neither the building which had that rollercoaster on its roof, nor the rollercoaster itself, appeared ever to have been painted since about 1929.

Don't bother wish the East Beach Cafe. The menu is overpriced and pretentious. Also they have form for 'forgetting' to pay their staff.

Go and admire the wonderful Thomas Hatherwick architecture for all means, but take a walk to the other end of the prom and go and eat in the cafe next to the lifeboat station (underneith the look and sea centre). The food is cheaper for a start.

Actually, the look and sea centre is a good way to kill an afternoon, if the visability is good there are fantastic views over the harbour from the observation deck.
Unbelievable I was going to tarnish the East Beach Cafe on here later, we did do there for lunch after wandering around Norfolk Gardens it is a funny shaped building we wandered in, and were told we would have to book, on a Monday for lunch!!

The food was quite good and I had nice blonde lager the wife has a Sussex Apple Juice which she enjoyed however, the kiddies menu was baby fish and chips but the chips were salted!!! But my main gripe was the persistence of the staff to ask everyone if they required anything more or???? They cleared away Mrs HB&B side of Chips before she'd finished (that's brave) and the ginger haired manageress was grumpy say the least!!! We walked back along the Adur passed the Look and Sea which appeared much nicer.

Littlehamptons OK !! A little Chavvy perhaps

Oh and Dwayne (Walter Mitty) I can experience Monday lunch in Littlehampton sunshine cos I have made my dough I'm not a wage slave like you. happy PAYE.

Anyone wanting to go to a quality beach (roughly) near here should take the time to get to West Witterings beach (west of Bognor) - absolutely beautiful, fine sand.

I did say it was pretentious! They won't let you go in for a drink (even if the tables are all empty) because they are reserved for 'diners'. However my main problem is the way they treat their staff.

Yeah where did the old rickety Roller Coaster go??

It dissappeared a few years ago - now a crazy golf course.

I was going to point a laugh, loudly, at this thread, as potentially the funniest thread title EVER.
But that wouldn't necessarily be fair.
The river and seafront are both fine, and do serve a purpose. Sadly for L'ton the further into it you get the worse it becomes, it's very much an 'end of the line' town.

If you were by the river just after 1 and 3 lycra clad loonies came past, on their bikes, I would have been one of them!.
