DIY boss lost Bill Archer lost Focus but made a killing - Times Online

and the quote: "He (Stanley) and Archer had also made their mark on British football, having owned Brighton & Hove Albion football club for a number of years."

That's like saying "the Nazi's had an important part to play in Jewish history".

Interesting article though - didn't realise him and Stanley came together.

Not sure how his reputation doesn't seem to have been affected by what happened ath the Albion though, whenever he's mentioned his behaviour here is always skipped over.

Seems odd that he ruined us for what, £10 million? when he's worth all that....

I think it's fair to say they did make their mark. Just like the Nazis DID have an important part to play in Jewish history.

The article would suggest that Mr Marlow did not put a great deal of research into the ownership of Brighton and Hove Albion. You would at least expect the word 'controversial' thrown in.

There is a comments section if you feel that way inclined.

Just highlights what a c&*t the guy is. I suspect if he realised the hassle he was going to get for it he probably wouldn't have done it, but on paper to a non football person I guess it looked like an easy deal. Bastard.

In the world that these people move in, I'm sure that the movers and shakers HAVE noticed his success at the Albion. He bought the company for £56.25 and ended up making £10 million.

A smaller scale deal than the Focus DIY affair (where the directors made a personal profit of £930 million out of a business that has lost £1.3 billion), but the principle is the same.

There's a lot of money to be made out there, provided you don't give a shit.

Unless I read the accounts incorrectly, I thought that Archer lost money in respect of the Albion, as he agreed to write off a £700,000 loan he made to the club when he severed the relationship.

Don't just look at the Albion's accounts. Look the profit made by selling on the Goldstone Ground.

That surely depends on whether he had any sort of relationship with Chartwell and/or whether he benefited from the sale in the long run.

Are you for real?!?! Why would you go and 'whack the fucker Bellotti'?! He's just the puppet they put up to take the abuse.

I personally don't think we need to grow up. Yes, we've moved on, but at a much slower rate thanks to our friends Archer and Stanley. Those trips to Gillingham and sitting in a sodden South Stand at Withdean have come directly from their sale of the Goldstone and mismanagement (for want of a better word) of the Club. The limitations the Club has had in the last 12 years can be attributed to both of the men who tried to stall talks with Knight and kill the Club for good. So yeah, I still have a 'grudge'.

Never forget.
