Juventus - New Stadium Capacity ? Suprising

I read about the new stadium being built for Juventus, and was suprised to see the capacity will be "only" 40200. That seems quite low to me for a team of the stature of Juve. Is this a reflection on possible dwindling crowd sizes to come in top flight football?

They have been grond sharing with neighbours Torino for a 2 years, capacity 27500.

TV coverage, cost of tickets, are they going for smaller capacity and superhigh ticket prices? Thoughts from the NSC Sage?

Juve don't really even pretend to represent the city of Turin. They'd get 28,000 or so wherever they played their home games.

Shame "The Bracknells" didn't have the same influence over LDC. Perhaps we should have befriended some Brightonian Mafia types.

Or perhaps just the NSC Moaning contingent, I reckon LDC would have just given up after a month or so if they heard that amount of consistent whingeing.

I get the impression that crowds in Italy have been dwindling for years, due to a number of factors (over saturation, crowd violence/problems, lack of status?).

As others have said Juve haven't played at the Del Alpi for some time.

One of the biggest reasons for the empty seats you see across Italy is that every game is available live on TV and goals are shown live as they happen on their Sunday afternoon equilivant of Sky Sports News. Despite amazingly low ticket prices it seems that they have totally flooded their market and people will choose just to watch on TV.

Could this ever happen here?

Although the 'product' here is held up as being the most exciting in the world it was only a while ago that Serie A was held in the same regard.

People may argue that they play a different style and that their football is 'boring' but isn't this only from an outsiders prospective. I have been to a number of games in Italy and they were all exciting with great atmosphere's.

I think there's a valuable lesson for us to learn that as soon as the market becomes flooded people may start to turn elsewhere. Obviously United, Liverpool etc will always be full but other clubs could start to see a sharp downturn in their attendances IF we continue to see the 24/7 football coverage that has been snowballing over the last few years.

Fair points Tommy, and exactly what could happen here. I guess so long as they keep live goals off the telly, that will help, but more importantly, get ticket prices down, then get the crowds back.

I believe for a while in Italy, football teams were not allowed to make a profit by law, so all the money they took was reinvested into the club, the playing staff and the stadia. When that ruling was lifted they all went mad for money making, I guess higher ticket prices, TV deals, all have taken their toll.

i have been to 2 juve games with arsenal and the situation is that they are one of the biggest travelling group of fans but when they moved their stadium years ago all the people of turin turned their back on the club and started supporting torino.They only recieved decent attendancies for champions league games.Also not only is the stadium empty but the terracing is situated quite far back from the pitch.

Went there about 5/6 years ago for a AC Milan v Juve game, quality atmosphere, flares, all the typical european stuff, but it was very empty. Surprising considering the amount of quality players that played for the two teams in those days.

as mentioned crowds in Italy have mostly been poor for years. Outside the top division then its the same as our conference

Ticket prices? I think I watched a program a while back, and it explained that prices in Germany were a fraction of what they are for example in the UK

Correct. There was a good piece in the Torygraph this week, quoting those specific reasons. Also, EVERY ticket includes train fare.

The Bundesliga actually has the highest attendances in Europe - higher than here as they have more teams with big stadiums - Dortmund/Bayern/Schalke/Hertha etc.. Great atmosphere, low ticket prices, but they're having a problem competing in the European competitions...
