Some kids work their arses off to get exams and that comment is very churlish.

1975 I had just moved schools for the 7th time and got 5 E's, 1D and the rest unclassified!

It is not so much that they are meaningless, but for many they are in reality a stepping stone to the next set of qualifications, which become a stepping stone to a degree and often the degree is used to get on to a professional qualification etc.

Because they are no true indication of a persons ability. The more course work based subjects give a better indication but as I say they really don't give a decent representation of education and they are piss easy.

What paper? I judge that they are piss easy 'cos I did them and they were piss easy.

to be fair i've had more challenging shits than my gcse's
that was a couple of years ago, so they might've got harder though

Very closed minded of you. However I agree that qualifications are generally regarded by HR departments as an indicator of ability.

With all due respect, that is absolute f***ing shit.
I would say GCSEs are a pretty good indication of a person's ability. If you end up with, say, 11 A* then it's a pretty good indication that that person has quite a bit of ability and is well placed to move onto higher education and a good job. If you end up with, say 4 GCSEs at Grade C or D, then that is a pretty good indication that your career as a Nuclear Physicist is pretty much dead in the water.
As for saying they are 'piss easy' that is an equally crass comment to make.
Two of my children have gone through GCSEs and they certainly DID NOT think they were 'piss easy' Quite the opposite in fact.

You did them 16 years ago. Maybe you were vry intelligent at school, and so found them easy, but your comments are degrading to people who are not as academically able, and so would be very pleased with their results.
In my experience, people who say that any exams are 'piss easy' are usually people who regret not working hard enough and are now paying the price for their laziness.
