I would sooner that we signed Gary Hart on a reasonable wage as cover rather than Darren Currie on an over self valued wage.

Cover for what ? What does Hart bring to the table these days other than toil and endeavour ? Look, he's been a great servant to the club, nobody would question that. But as a forward he's a busted flush. He's never looked comfortable at fullback because he's prone to diving in, tackling is not one of his assets. On the wing he no longer has the pace, and he doesn't have Curries passing range or creativity to make up for it.

So we give Hart another year. WHERE does he play ?

Indeed, Currie would be a much more of an asset to the squad than Hart would IMO.

jake monthorpe posted last week that mayo would get a 1 year deal and reid and hart would not:thud:now he is claiming that hart will get a 1 year deal....adams is getting in loads of new players....hart loves this club so much if he had been offered a deal by us do you think he would even speak to Cambridge a team 2 leagues below us and the fact none of the 3 players have gone to Ireland should also in my view be seen as a sign that none of them will be taken on...

Even with his lack of pace Gary Hart is faster than Currie, he puts in more effort than Currie, tackles more than Currie, could be used as a sub in many positions unlike Currie, and can still cross a good ball, granted not as good as Currie but we are talking about a man as cover not as a first choice start every game. I think that OGH fits the bill better for our needs than Currie.

We've got plenty of players who can run around a lot and tackle, BG.
What we HAVN'T got is someone who can chip a ball through a toilet seat from 60 yards.

I've not seen Livermore yet. But I've hardly been BLINDED by Thomsons range of passing so far. He's more of a grafter, which is fine as well. Its all about having options.

I havent seen Livermore either but am going on the word of both Nobby Horton and Mark McGhee and I was impressed with Thomson and his ability to play balls through the centre of midfield. As I have said my only concern with Currie is that his crosses are from deep 25 yds out, near the half way line and aimed at the penalty spot, which are easy for central defenders to cope with. If he could take the ball, by whatever means to the goal line and pull it back away from the goalkeeper I would say yes he is an asset but how often does he do that, not very often.

I think that we must nearly have exhausted this discussion and must wait and see what has happened come Easter time.
