Plenty of better less pretencious restaurants in Brighton. But if you like being overcharged and acting like a prick all night go for it!

A friend took me there on tuesday night as its his favourite restaurant and whilst we were dining someone he knew sent over a bottle of Bollinger rose 1976 as it was his birthday. It was only later when I looked through the wine list that I noticed the price of the bottle was £ 525.00.
We joined them at the bar after eating and they wanted our opinions on a couple of sweet whites that they had ordered. Each one was 180.00 a bottle.
My friend informed me that apparently he had once run up a bill for 56 thousand in there one night after celebrating a successful business venture of some sorts.

Lovely evening and very nice grub.

Had my wedding reception there recently, can't recommend the food more..

I had a deal on the booze, but drinks are stupidly expensive in the bar.

I really like Hotel du Vin.

Firstly the food is great (i'm not a foodie, but i can tell its a class above the other restuarants i've eaten in). As for plonk, me and the missus have been there a couple of times and we just get a nice bottle of vino for something like £15. Yeah it won't get you wasted having the one bottle (why would you go to HdV to get wasted anyway?), but its really good wine. And the major, major plus for me about the HdV is that, in my experience, the staff are friendly and not at all snooty.

If you go for a set lunch or summat, the food is still really good without blowing a hole in your wallet.

I've been to the Brighton HdV i think 3 times in the last couple of years and enjoyed it every time. And i went to one up in Harrogate aswell for me anniversary, and that was lovely too.

The only bad reports I've come across have been on this page.

I had my wedding reception there and couldn't fault the food, the staff, teh rooms etc. I was back again for my one year anniversary a few weeks ago. It didn't dissappoint.

Fixed price lunch is good value. Or at least it was last time I was in there. Distinctly remember not crying when the bill came.
