Our shareholders meeting is held there each Christmas. We have the three largest rooms (two on the corners with the double baths and the telescopes - plus the top floor with the unfeasible telly) for a night and have dinner in the restaurant.

They've never let us down. May have just gone off the boil slightly since it was bought by a larger group about 18 months ago. Certainly in Tunbridge Wells they have lost a lot of the old staff and the edge has gone.

Plenty of better less pretencious restaurants in Brighton. But if you like being overcharged and acting like a prick all night go for it!

Never had a bad meal or been mugged off by staff.

Do not think its over priced, you pay for what you get.

Should you have acted like a prick when you were there last then more fool you.

"'That's a boy,' Ida said.'You nearly had me scared there for a moment. Nice thing it would have been for me if you'd passed out in this taxi...But men are funny with me that way. Always trying to make out there's something wrong, money or the wife or the heart. You aren't the first one who said he was dying. Never anything infectious though. Want to make the most of their last hours and all the rest of it. It comes of me being so big, I suppose. They think I'll mother them. I'm not saying I didn't fall for it the first time. 'The doctors only give me a month,' he said to me - that was five years ago. I see him regular now at Henekey's. 'Hullo, you old ghost,' I always say to him, and he stands me to oysters and a Guinness.'"

I see what you did there Ed.

Henekeys has the distinction of being the only pub that has chucked me out. That triggered off such bad memories that I avoided HdV for years.

I went there for a lunch meeting a few years ago and it struck me as being a bit over-priced for what it was offering but that it wasn't horrendously expensive. It certainly didn't make me want to rush back but I concede that it was nicely done up.

Oh, you're back. The most pointless poster on the board.

I'm one out of many who like the hotel, and yet you decide to round on me. And it's evident that, once again, you have absolutely no idea what you're on about. You really are a prat.

Maybe because you decided to single out someone and thought you were funny!

most pointless poster.. you must be in the running for that one gobshite!

Oh no I forgot, you are a NSC hero!

sorry!

Well, as I said before I had a rather low key wedding reception there (25 guests) and they treated us like royalty. We planned it just like a good night out for friends and family.

We wanted something simple and originally looked the Ship next door. But after walking in the restaurant and seeing the quality of the food we went for it straight away.

The food just taken was the menu was exceptional. Although it was mine, best wedding I've been too :D

The bar is very expensive, but for a meal it's the first place I'd recommend in Brighton.

Trying to keep everyone happy we went for Salmon Fish Cakes, Roast Beef and Apple pie. It was the best Salmon Fish Cakes, Roast Beef and Apple pie I'd had in my life.

Point in case - I went down there once and bought a glass of wine for me and the missus. I was kind of there on business (I used to design their in-house magazine) and kind of for pleasure. We were splashing out a wee bit, and it was excellent stuff. Then the hotel manager came and joined us, and bought us a glass of wine each as well.

She said she was going to put her round on her tab, but the barman misunderstood and put our drink on her tab as well, which was pretty lucky because the five glasses of wine came to £120.
