Would not be suprised but it's Zamoraesque in the valuation, we must need the money badly if so. Hardly a suprise and possibly why we have already signed a centre back. Elphick is definitely good enough for a Championship side to take a punt on him, especially if we'll let such a good player on a long contract go so cheaply

If the figure is correct then that would be good business. Hopefully a hefty sell on clause will be attached as well. If he progresses he could be a very valuable player. :)

i would be absolutely gutted to be honest. 1.5 million is pretty good money but how much will go back on players? Elphick is the best defender we have had in years, better than Mcshane.

This is the point, if say a million gets put into the team then brilliant. I suspect it wouldnt though

How much did Paul McShane go to Sunderland for? I'd suggest that Elphick is a better prospect than McShane who is too small to ever be a top level centre back in England.

I've always said it's Lynch I'd be disappointed to lose of our current defenders. He's a PROPER footballer. My definition of a perfect centre-half. Elphick's a decent enough league one defender, but he's got no skill or football brain. Bit slow as well. Anything over £1m and I'd bite a club's hand off.

A year ago I'd have agreed with you but did he really come on that much last season, too many lapses of concentration and too often trying to be too cute in playing the ball out of defence, and getting caught out in crucial matches, costing us more points than Elphick did. Can that be coached out of him?

Lynch is also injury prone

£1.5m is a good bit of business - especially as he is unproven any higher than this level. would be a bit of a gamble by wolves to splash out that much, especially after the freddy eastwood signing

reinvest some of that money in the team, whack on a hefty sell on clause should he continue to progress in the manner that he is, and it will be a decent deal

Just me then that thinks we'd be under selling him at 1.5 million :(

How much do you reckon he's worth then? Bear in mind Zamora (who was not only better, but played in a position where players are more expensive) also went for £1.5m.

Firstly we were shafted on Zamora imo but he wanted out and we needed to sell. If the Elphick situation turns out the same then we'll just have to take what we are offered.

I'd rather Elphick didn't leave at all but anything under 2 million is too little for a player who was consistent all season and won player of the year in his 1st full season. His potential is enormous and we all know sell on fees can be manipulated to screw the original selling club (again Zamora being a perfect example in his swap for Jermaine Defoe with West Ham) so I wouldn't hold out too much hope of adding anything to the original fee in sell on clauses.

I have only seen him play on TV and read reviews but somehow I feel 1.5 million is low. I think prices have gone up a lot since Zamora left. I know it is part of football but it is a shame if he moves on after by all (all that I've heard) accounts playing some great football. If he goes a good sell on clause would be important we seem to mess up on that usually

if true, but be honest been rumoured since beginning of season, is good business at the moment bearing in mind what league we are in but would hope a sell on clause is included because Elphick will play premiership football in a few years. Talking of sell on do we have one on Barry because 10% of 10-15 mill would be very nice and an unexpected bonus

The cost of a player is by no means always an indicator of the value of a player. Why not compare Zamora's £1.5m sale with, say, the offer Everton made for him for £3m? Did he become half the player he was in between the times of those two bids? Of course not.

Therefore, the comparison is meaningless.

Except to accountants.
