None of us really knows what goes on behind the scenes. Maybe Wilkins had a hand in stepping down? Maybe what we've been hearing about his man management is true? It would certainly explain some of the performances last year.

It certainly will make for a great summer as he tries to buy Cullip and bring back Hart and Mayo.

Going to assume that's a joke? That would make for a shocking summer - it's one thing bringing a manager back from 7 years ago, quite another to bring back ex-players as well. All those players, regardless of how affectionately we felt for them, were released or sold (in Cullip's case by more than one club) for a reason.

I'm happy to see Micky Adams return but do feel for DW. He was pushed into management a job which he never seemed comfortable with. If he accepts the coaching role then I think he will be more in his comfort zone. When speaking to the media he never seemed at ease.

My only reservation- since Micky left he has been to Leicester, Colchester and Coventry. Be worried Coventry!! as the other two will be joining us in League One.

I think that this has been in the pipeline for some time now, these sort of things do not happen overnight.
Dean has always accepted his shortcomings in experience and maybe the first to admit relief that this burden has now been lifted from him, now he can get back to what he knows.
I don't think that he will leave, as being part of the set up for so long he would probably see this as a last resort plus the fact that he can still make a difference in a the coaching role.
As far as the clear out 'en mass', isn't this a trademark of Adam's way of doing things?
The only reason that Wilkins was handed this responsibility was so no one would blame Adams for the removal of ' fan's favourites' and hence he starts with an unblemished record and no animosity.
Wilkins displayed a lot of courage carrying this out, whist knowing that soon he would not have to face the fallout from it.
It is no secret that Adams had to be prised from this role in the past, so if everything goes to plan Knight is looking to longevity and popularity.
I think this is a brave move and you have to break eggs to make an omelette.

Pretty much how I see it - Dean out of his depth but a gent. DK forced to take action. Dean left to clear some shit up before he is replaced. Dean probably staying and now given the respect within BHA that his coaching skills deserve.

Hopefully this is a show of intent by the board, i know most on here are blaming DK for 'sacking' Wilkins but i feel he may just be the the spokesperson for the more influential people of the board who wanted this to happen.

I think the board realise that promotion MUST happen next year and i can imagine that Micky will get some more cash to make it happen.

However i feel sorry for Wilkins, i actually thought he was learning and was building a very good side. Obviously i don't know what happens behind closed doors but i hope he stays, but would rather him be MA number 2 than that f***ing clown White

From someone whose approach on life is very much from the 'how many tickets can we sell' angle, I think the fact that Mickey is rock-solid box office would have been a factor. A perpetually full Withdean is essential for Falmer as the financial planning has only allowed for that scenario; and in the event of the Championship eluding us, we need all bums on seats to make sure the club is earning enough to push on with the stadium.

Though I share some opinions on here that Mickey would have wanted to have had a say in who went and who didn't, and am curious as to wether he was ever 'consulted'.

Nail on head. This is a commercial as much as it is a football decision. But I have to say I am shocked and think Dick Knight has made a big mistake. Wilkins is a young manager who has finished 7th in his first full season and has been sacked. That is appalling in my book. He deserved the opportunity to improve the squad over the summer and crack on next season. I want him to stay but if I was him, I'd tell Knight where he can stick his job. Also, it very rarely works when a manager goes back for a second spell. Willing to be proved wrong but at the moment I am shocked and appalled.

I respect what Wilkins has done under very difficult circumstances but I share the view that an experienced manager (plus funds) is required if we are to get out of this division.

Take the Swansea game last weekend Martinez was on the touchline throughout the game giving instructions making tactical alterations then one look at our dugout and everyone is just wandering around with clipboards.

With the further losses this week and to make Falmer sustainable we need to be playing Championship football so the board have gone with experience over sentiment.

It may or may not pay off but respect to them for having the foresight and conviction to go for this.

Hope Wilkins stays in the coaching role as he has proved this is where his strength lies

1105 last night and the missus and I are "interrupted" by 15yo son banging on the bedroom door. "Dad, dad, he's back, he's back!! Its on 5live". In a split second a strange array of names went through my head. Des Lynam (back on the radio?). The milkman (surely not that time already?). Tony Blair (). And then I thought: it must be Mickey! And it is!!
I've now read through all 14 pages of this thread and reckon:
I hate to say it but Naylor's Argus piece is spot on and not just because MA will make his job more interesting. Being a fan will be more interesting.
I do have some sympathy with DW but DK is a shrewd businessman and he knows sometimes you have to make hard decisions and it is better to make them from a position of strength.
I think on balance DW will stay - for now - because he doesn't have a better job to go to. I presume he will be on the same money, although probably not same bonus. Otherwise he could consider a construtive dismissal claim should he wish to go.
When the Gills game was postponed before xmas I spent time in the gym with the players and what struck me was the 'invisibility' of DW and, frankly, his lack of authority. He has done a top job in the circumstances but he has his limitations and we must kick on.
Whatever the rights and wrongs, let's get behind MA.
