We were commenting about Russian culture a couple of days ago. Although it's a long time ago, today in Estonia we remembered the Soviet deportations to Siberia. Just remember this is what Russia is capable of doing in other countries.

I remember reading about it many years ago. Families were ripped apart, not knowing if they would ever see each other again.

But it wasn't the only forced migration in the war. In 1944 Crimea, Stalin ordered the deportation of some 200,000 Crimean Tatars to other parts of Russia.

Today, it is happening again, with Putin repeating the ethnic cleansing by transporting tens of thousands of Ukrainian children to be adopted by unknown families in unknown, unrecorded parts of Russia.

This is not just what Russia is capable of. This is what Russia actually does, and it justifies it by claiming it is doing it to keep the children safe.

Russian/ Soviet Union hasn't changed at all. And this is why they cannot be allowed to win in Ukraine, they won't stop there

A very upsetting piece of history that I knew very little about. Thanks for posting.

Yes, that's always their justification: liberating people from Nazism, saving the children... always total BS.
But Putin wished needy Trump a happy birthday... so he must be ok 🤷🏼‍♂️. 🤬

Sadly I have no optimism that Trump has the desire to obtain any kind of peace that doesn't reward Russian aggression, and I

can think of no other US President in history that would have rewarded such
I saw some footage on Forbes today of the House Armed Services Committee giving Hegseth a tough time. It was refreshing to hear statements (not from Hegseth sadly) along the lines ofRussia is an enemy and we can’t allow Ukraine to lose.

I wonder how events in Israel/Iran will impact the war in Ukraine. Maybe it will restrict Iran’s supply of arms to Russia. Maybe it will further deflect US attention away from Ukraine (which could be positive or negative depending on what you feel about Trump’s ability to get a resolution).

I have also wondered how much advice and support Ukraine has received from Israeli IDF. There seems to have been similar tactics used on attacks on Iran as were used in attacks on Russia. They both used smuggled drones, hidden in trucks with retractable roofs, near their targets. Coincidence or what?

This is extraordinary. Is the last 6 months beginning to make sense?
Has Russia thrown its main ally Iran under the bus?

For me, the really interesting part begins at 21:45. The guts of it are at 24:00.

Exactly the same as Syria.

There is a bit of good news in the Jake Broe update - the Israeli attack on Iran will disrupt the passage of Russian oil and gas and raw materials from Astrakhan across the Caspian Sea to Iran and on to India.

That was very interesting thanks - great work from Jake.
The theory of 'we'll look away when you strike Ukraine,so long as you look away when we strike Iran ' is quite possible but I'm not sure I buy it... although it might go some way to explain the pro Putin stuff from the White House.
I think it's also possible that Putin is just terrified of war with Israel or the US, so abandoning Iran is a no brainer for him. Putin just wanted Shaheds and a Caspian route. He'd drop N Korea too if it suited him.
Excellent to hear that Trump (?) has supported another 30 million dollars of 'weaponry ' to Ukraine - whatever is going on that's a ✅ from me.
