1) Major championship being Euros or World cup.
2) Question applies to men‘s senior team only
3) Question is about Tournament win going forward not the past win of 1966

I think we have to accept that '66 was an exception rather than an expectation. Everything aligned and we got lucky in the final. We always seem to produce " Great " players but we never have quite enough to push on and win.

Some times we will make it to being Bridesmaid but we'll never get the real prize.

Shame you ruled the Lionesses out as I think the women have far more chance than the shambles we saw last night. Not convined the women will win the Euros this year but if I had to bet on the next winners of a major tournament, my fiver would definately be on the women.

We've had golden opportunities with multiple, world-class players and failed. It's a mentality thing. Will never happen.

I voted no but it would be silly to rule it out.

I can recall Germany being shit in friendlies then winning the WC.
A couple of duff results and unfathomable team selections doth a summer not make.

Hang on.......

I realize the game is long over but.....

Tommy Tootle is about to bring on Toney!

Disagree.

Every time we've gone in a tournament with a decent side, which has the potential to win the tournament, which has happened about 10 times I guess in my lifetime, there have also been approx 10 other very decent teams who could also win.

There's never been a tournament, where we've been the stand out best team, who should have won, we've only ever been one of a bunch in with a shout

Even going into the next tournament, we've got one of the stronger squads on paper. But can we say we "should" win it, over Spain, France, Argentina etc?

There aren't many of these tournaments and the knock out stages which we usually qualify for leaves, plenty of room for randomness to intervene. We've just come out on the wrong side of the margins. It's not mentality, how is the mentality of say Peter Bonetti related to that of Bryan Robson, or Ashley Cole or Bukayo Saka. There is just too much of a time period to say it's mentality.

Brighton. NOT KEMPTOWN!
I couldn't stand the excitement of watching yet another World Cup win.

Fair points Nobby. Do you not think though that other countries when they play us know full well that our Achilles heel is
our lack of belief and when push comes to shove - we simply crumble.

I mean, we have a poor record in shoot outs for sure.

We certainly seem to come out the wrong side of some tough ones to take in knock out games, between Maradona's hand, Gazza's toe, Beckham's red, Campbells disallowed goal.

But in all those games, whether lost on pens or in normal or extra time, i'm not sure I can put my hand on my heart and say we 100% deserved to win. They were all tight games and the margins went against us

We definitely deserved to beat Germany in the semifinals of Euro 96. The others I agree about

Yes, I think so. In fact I'd be amazed if we didn't in the next 20 years. We've been so close recently, and actually genuinely close rather than 'all those oh so nears' in the 80's and 90's where we were the 7th best team and the tournament. It will happen sooner or later, I'm sure of it.

The overreaction to this week's performances has been laughable, as usual, by idiotic, reactionary football fans who can only think on 90 minute timescales. England are ALWAYS shit in June outside of a tournament, for obvious reasons.

I still think Tuchel was a strange appointment, but I'm not going to judge him (or in fact bother to watch at all) until the World Cup, as we all know that qualifying and friendlies bear no resemblance to how the team actually perform once they get to a tournament.
