Yes.

I appreciate it's fashionable to not like England for some reason, and feel DESPERATE to tell people about it (I imagine it's classic self preservation, like saying "I never really liked her anyway"), but if there was another nation who keep making finals, keep producing top quality youngsters and had some genuinely world class players, we would say "of course they will get one eventually"

But because it's us we have to stick to "no, we are rubbish"

I think we have to accept that '66 was an exception rather than an expectation. Everything aligned and we got lucky in the final. We always seem to produce " Great " players but we never have quite enough to push on and win.

Some times we will make it to being Bridesmaid but we'll never get the real prize.
I agree. Like Wimbledon winning the FA Cup it was an aberration. The stars were aligned and we undoubtedly did 'get lucky'. Not just the third goal in the Final itself, but things like Stiles not being sent off against France after he'd taken Jacques Simon out of the game (no subs in those days). The semi-final win against Portugal was probably England's best performance.

For some reason at international tournament level we are not a top footballing nation. We can have our moments and we undoubtedly produce good players, but the stars never quite align for us to get over the line - and we need them too. (Yes, yes, it was all Southgate's fault). As someone else mentioned we do occasionally arrive at a tournament with a good team, but then we always seem to be surprised and even a bit aggrieved when other nations also turn up with good teams. Then our loser mentality takes over: 'oh we never beat a top side'.

Still, I live in hope! We always have a puncher's chance. England forever.

If Mitoma defects then yes,if not be prepared for another 60 years of overpaid individual bottle jobs pretending they'd play for the bus fare home.

The desire of Senegal to win and the lack of desire by England is a systematic age old problem,That lot last night should be ashamed to wear the shirt.

I fear we've had our chances in recent years...some decent sides and some favourable draws.

I just feel we lack the winning mentality that other nationalities thrive on.
