His first touch is smooth.Cripes, he loves a nutmeg...... nice substitute for the 'Gross Turn'
Really not sure how I feel about this but the club get most things right. Would have made more sense to spend this money on a decent defender but what do I know? We say it every window and every mid season we wonder why we spent xxmillion on young players but 0 on central defenders.
Not sure I agree. We were already thin at CB last season, and if we're going to buy a young CB with promise, we'll probably need to ease him into things over the first season, as we did with JPVH.Unless we're getting rid of either Dunk or JPVH this summer, there's no point spending loads on a CB just yet, we'd never keep everyone happy.
CB is a position that doesn't suit over rotation.
I would think next summer is the time for the big splurge in that position.

No time like the present.
But likely losing Igor and Dunk is probably shifting into a backup role. I think the time is right to sign a youngster with a high ceiling looking at being a regular 1-2 seasons in the future, perhaps that Italian lad.Don't forget, We're getting a £30m back up for nowt.
Do you think we recruited Tom Curren last season without us knowing?!Interesting to read this from Scouted, which dates from when he was 16 and played in the Uefa Youth League final which Olympiacos won. He was the youngest player in the team. Mention of our old friend Tzimas at the end too...

Maybe we’re about to do that with SimmondsNot sure I agree. We were already thin at CB last season, and if we're going to buy a young CB with promise, we'll probably need to ease him into things over the first season, as we did with JPVH.

Exactly people should be concerned if the recruitment team thought Cashin was the business. We spent £10m in the last window on a central defender.

I suspect we'll have 4 players for the No.9 role (with Georginio being the No.1 choice for the No.10 role):I think one of the reasons we’ve been able to get him is that Tzimas will be here and having a fellow Greek player in the squad will help him settle.
I think he’s at a similar level of development, and price for that matter, as Gruda. So I don’t expect him to burst onto the scene early next season.
People are asking whether he’s the Joao Pedro replacement. Rutter was brought in to be the Joao Pedro replacement and I see this guy as the Rutter replacement when we sell him in a year or two. We are hot on succession planning and this acquisition appears to be another cog in that machine.
No. We don't 'need' to. Especially if we keep JPvH. Him and Webster have the shirts for next season as far as I'm concerned. It's then up to Dunk, Boscagli or even Veltman to put pressure on them and take their starting positions. But that leaves us one centre-back short I believe unless Igor stays. There is surely not going to be enough minutes available for our left footed Brazilian body builder to want to remain at the club. He is a builder, not a distributor, I don't think that centre-back profile is where our manager is at.We do need to sign a cb of quality in addition to Boscagli?
Agreed. It was mainly injuries in my opinion (together with Dunk's poor form) that led to our awful defensive record (most goals conceded in the top 13).The squad is decent especially going forward but all season we lacked at the back . That has to be the main focus as well.
The possibility of being mocked by other fans is the very least of our worries. He looks like a genuinely great prospect and has age on his side. The question mark for most is over the fee but if that's what they're asking for and if that's what we're willing to pay, there we are -- that's the deal. It's interesting but playing as a 16 year.old in the UEFA youth league is a million miles from the premier league!! I thought the Facebook post from nsc quoting this opens us up to getting severely mocked by other clubs fans.
We are just gonna have to wait and see with the 2 Greeks and probably wait at least 3 years
I agree with you that Evan is a Chris Wood type and I think he will be really effective again - I’m still hoping it’s for us but get your point entirelyI suspect we'll have 4 players for the No.9 role (with Georginio being the No.1 choice for the No.10 role):
Welbz
Georginio
Tzimas
Ferguson/Kostoulas/O'Mahony
Of course, we need to sign the other Greek talent and someone needs to pay the correct fee for Pedro. That could take a month or two.
In terms of the 4th player on the list, it surely won't be Sima as there are too many rumours about him leaving. I suspect that he does not have the technical ability required by an Albion team but he does have power, pace and goal scoring ability, something that will surely get him a decent club next season.
Unfortunately, Ferguson was unable to use his West Ham loan to further his case for inclusion next season. If anything, he has dropped down the playing order. It's worth noting that the attribute of having an 'all round game' seems to be a massive consideration for FH, just like it was for Potter. Evan may well be one of the best finishers we've seen at this football club but his all round ability has never been close to the likes of Welbz, Pedro or Georginio. But he could be an exceptional fit elsewhere. If you have to compare Evan to another EPL, Chris Wood is surely at the top of the pile? Perhaps the owner of Olympiacos has realised that? Could he hand back the Kostoulas cash via Forest for young Evan?
