I remember Scherpen being our sub keeper at Anfield in that game where Mwepu curled in that long-range beauty. Only really remember because of watching the pre-match drills and thinking how massive he was. He even made Sanchez look diminutive; it would have been comical to watch him warm up with Mat Ryan.

He wasn’t our sub keeper that day. Steele was on the bench. Scherpen would have been there as the third keeper that we always take to a game just in case one gets injured in the warm up. He’d have been on the pitch helping warm up the two keepers in the squad.
He’s played for us once in the 2-1 aet Fa Cup win over West Brom in 21-22 season. He’s been on the bench 8 times in the PL and twice in the EFL Cup.

As posted in MY's thread. @pigmanovich had also already posted on here that he'd been named GK of the season, but do wonder whether he might finally get a chance with us. He's 6'8" and Whoscored.com have him down as very strong on penalty saves. May have been a useful option in the FA Cup QF.

The other day I said he could step up for us if Bart transfers out this summer so was a bit shocked by @Heathgate’s post - but it seems Scherpen is thinking on the same lines tbh - he also envisages replacing Bart next season (or moving on if Bart stays).
“Perhaps Scherpen still has a good time in mind that an international is on his resume, with a view to an upcoming transfer. Because as long as Bart Verbruggen remains first goalkeeper at Brighton, the goalkeeper wants to look for another club. Preferably abroad. "There is already interest from clubs starting to take off", Scherpen admits when asked.”
If Bart stays, we won’t need him.
