As it turned out, we were safe before Big Ben rang in 2025

So that's a wrap. A season in which we finished one over Europe but didn't reach Europe. Small margins, blah blah blah, but I will be taking a long hard look at myself in the mirror in the coming days and weeks. Talk of discussions with @Bozza (we need a Ploughmans anyway), and I may offer my resignation. One way or other the tracker will be back next season. It's going to be a good one.

21 over relegation, 1 over Europe, but not in Europe. Damn you Palace, damn you.

Does the Europe Tracker need to be revised for next season? 60 points obviously not enough for Europe any more.

There isn’t enough evidence that 60 points isn’t enough. I believe this is the only season since we’ve been in the Premier League where 61 points hasn’t got a team Europe.

Or in other words, don’t mess with the tracker!

60 points WAS enough for Europe - league-wise. Just that pesky FA Cup thing.

In the last 5 seasons, number of points needed to secure Europe:

2020-21 65pts (Spurs 62 and Arsenal 61 missed out)
2021-22 56pts
2022-23 61pts (Spurs 60 missed out)
2023-24 63pts (Newcastle with 60pts finishing 7th would have qualified but lost out to Man Utd who finished below them but won the FA Cup - sound familiar?)
2024-25 65pts

The other important thing to note is that we were only competing for Europe by securing 8th place, which in previous seasons only went down to 7th, but English Clubs performance in Europe (Man Utd/Spurs??) meant an extra Champions League place.
So if the Clubs hadn't performed so well in Europe this season, Palace winning the FA Cup wouldn't have made any difference to us finishing 8th.......
......but you can only play with the rules set in front of you!

Ultimately the international break done us, going into it playing well,
2 weeks later we looked like a different team couldn’t beat Leicester and 3 losses and it’s uphill from there.
Enjoyed your thread, can’t wait for next season to start. UTA

The Europe tracker was fine, there was no way to track that lot lucking out and picking up the most undeserved cup win in history

If Rutter and Webster had seen out our PL season from the FAC game, I really believe we’d have contested 5th place.

Around half the time 61 points isn’t enough let alone 60.

62 is more accurate scanning through the last 15 years.

My vote would be to target 64 points (so the lowest 16 teams instead of the lowest 15). The staying up tracker target of 40 points practically guarantees safety in most seasons, so why not set the Europe target to something that also practically guarantees success?

That said this is @Giraffe's tracker so whatever they say goes and I very much appreciate the effort made (especially when the miserabilists are out in force after a loss).

Best thread @Giraffe

My view is that the Euro target should be increased (and relegation floor reduced).

The last two years have seen a real drop off in points from the bottom three, 62 Vs 87 from 9 years prior. Doesn't feel like that'll change much next season. Also the top four have picked up a bit less, 314 vs 328. So there's about 28 points for the other 13 teams to fight over, averages two each. So to get into Europe it's getting harder, say +2 points.

It's not clear what league position gets Europe so it's a punt but sixth feels like should get you there. That's averaged 65 last two years and 63 for last eleven years.

Could argue it's more like 63-65 anything below is a bonus.

Relegation clearly isn't 40 but it's been the target for so long and doesn't feel like we need to focus on that for next years (fingers crossed)
